McLeod Wins In Late Models

Hank Sanders

Super Late Model: Lady luck was riding with Mike Williams last week, and Saturday night she jumped in the #78 Pete Orr s Winners Circle car withB. J. McLeod.B.J. s team was coming off a big win last week in a 125 lapper, and they felt their team was ready to win at NSS. With Pete directing the strategy, McLeod took the lead back from the #11 Dodge of David Rogers on the first lap and drove a flawless race to victory. David was second, with Sammy Graham in the #1Whited and Fuller Monte Carlo back for third after last week s trouble. #20 Ron Dicandio had a nice run for 4th, and Joe Fitos in the #63 was 5th. The Race Car Engineering Sunbelt Series will be in action next Saturday at Cordele Ga.

Modified: Tank Tucker in his #15 Graham/Lefthander appears to be on a mission, and it was mission accomplished as he scored his second win in a row over a big field of Mods. Tank stayed out of the multi crashes that marred the initial starts that claimed several cars. Mike Fitch drove the #1 car to 2d, while Mark Vandevender in the #7 grabbed the third spot. Ted The Man from Pine Hills Head ran strong and claimed the forth spot over the hard charging #29 of Bo Davis in the Taylor Performance Chevy who was back after a hard crash last week The top 3 were checked for forth and third gear ratios, and all cars passed inspection.

Late Model: Bob Andercheck s #90 Jolly Roger s / Blackies Monte Carlo was the car to beat as he gets faster every week. Bob took the measure of the good field with the #2 1999 Black Camaro of Dave Love having his best run to date and grabbing second over Timmy Todd in the #25 IROC Camaro. The forth spot on the paysheet was picked up by The Pride Of Altamonte Springs Brian Bellaw in the #77 NO Bull Chevy. After the race , Brian thanked his parents for their support in getting him back to the track. Fifth went to Chad Pierce in the #57.

Mini stock: Rick Tumey driving the #55 T.H.E. Ford Probe returned to NSS with a beautifully prepared and winning race car. Racin Rick had to out run a good field of cars including Misselman Tim McPhale in the #7 Rocket car who nabbed the runner up spot. Past Champ Conrad Grenier in the black #01 ran to the 3d spot over Ted Vulpius in the #71. Charlie Statts in the Ford F-150 ran fifth.

Sportsman : Doug Samian in the #04 Rinaldi Air car was able to master the fast field of Sportsman cars to get the big win. Something apparently broke on the #90 car of Steve Flinn as he drove hard into the turn 3 wall causing a huge crash taking out several fast cars on the first lap. Dale Clouser in the #30 stayed out of trouble and ran 2d, Ron Lufsy in the AAA Welding Chevy ran a strong third. Forth went to Ian Huffman in the #3 Gator Golf MC. 5th was picked up by hard charging Dave Gibbs in the #47 Golden Florida Mgt. Chevy.

SuperStock: Jim Winterstein s #13 Olds had mechanical problems, allowing a Chevy to claim victory. Big Billy Spade put the teal 15X up front and dominated the massive field of Super Stockers. Dave Gould put the #16 black Chevy in 2d, third went to Chris Peladat in the #28. John Hodge s 00 ran 4th, and Mike Wizeoreck drove the Fuglie s Bar #30 car to 5th. This class is a crowd favorite.
