Conrad Grenier Winner In New Smyrna MiniStocks

By Hank Sanders
Super Late Model: Mike Williams was the man to beat as he drove his #40 South 40 Motorsports Chevy to a tough win over David Rogers driving his new #11 Dodge. Mike and David raced clean, and Mike was happy to get the bad luck monkey off his back. Sammy Graham in the #1 Whited and Fuller Monte Carlo would have been a factor, but a lap car raced him into the corner and wrecked him. John Frolich ran third in the #22 Pennzoil car, and #20 Ron Dicandio rounded out the field of running cars.

Modified: Tank Tucker was back in his #15 Graham/Lefthander and cruised to an easy win. Jeff Anderson in the #99 made a last lap pass on. Mark Vandevender in the #7 to grab the second spot. The #3 Cadillac of Wayne Parker claimed fourth and Joe Middleton in the #71 was 5th. All cars passed inspection.

Late Model: Mike Todd in the #84 jumped out front and stayed out of harm s way to get the victory. Timmy Todd in the #25 was involved in a last lap incident with Bob Andercheck s #90, but hung on to the car to cross the line 2d. This caused a furor in the grandstands. Earl Backer s #3 was 3d, Mark Sonny Lynn had a strong run in the #4 Volvo car and came home 4th. The 2000 Sportsman champ, Bob Andrecheck s #90 was credited with 5th. The #17 Green s Camera car of Phil Bessett deserves note as he has certainly gotten stronger this season. The team keeps the paint and body work in excellent condition and Phil won the heat race a couple of weeks ago.

Mini stock: #55 of Rick Tumey spun and came up and hit the #1 of Travis Statts driving Statts car hard into the turn #4 wall in the heat. Statts was OK, but the car was badly damaged. That let past champ Conrad Grenier in the black #01 take the lead and get the win. Tummy was back for 2d, Ron Dubeau was 3d, the Ford F-150 of Charlie Statts ran fourth, and Clint Foley was 5th.

Sportsman: Jason Boyd showed up to drive the #54 Coca-Cola/Daytona Hilton car owned by Randy Newby. Boyd looked like the winning car, but Ian Huffman in the #3 Gator Golf MC made contact with Boyd, and Boyd s car spun and crashed while leading. A heated discussion erupted, but both cars were out of contention. Donnie Williams in the #111 took over and won the race. Doug Samion in the #04 was second, young Bobby Mara in the #77 ran 3d, Dave Sally was 4th while Butch Yancy was 5th.

SuperStock: Jim Winterstein s #13 Olds was back and again made short work of the Chevy gang. The #13 easily won another one. Ted Helms was the fastest Chevy and captured 2d, third went to Ed Zikowski in the Shark Lounge car, the #92 of Simcox and the #45 of Mike Soukup rounded out the top 5.

Strictly Stock Feature: #11 Shane Stacy - #27 Josh Wronkowski - #57 Steve Kelly - #35 Hot Rod Moss - #38 Bob Thrombly The Pride Of Sanford
