Powers In Winner's Circle At Hialeah

By Marty Little
Street stock points leader Rick Lutz put another win notch in his belt Saturday night as he captured the 50 lap feature event at Hialeah Speedway.

Mike Orth grabbed the lead at the outset to pace the dozen car field until Mike Kohut took command on lap 21. The battling all around the track was furious with Lutz keeping the pressure on Kohut until Kohut spun on lap 40. Once in front Lutz never looked back, grabbing his fourth win of the year over Chalo DeCastro, Orth, Gary Padula and Kohut.

Mini stock hot shoe David Russell made it victory number eight this season as he overhauled Bill Calder on lap three then held off arch-rival Buddy Sizemore for the win. Rookie Tommy Styer copped third spot ahead of Kenny Strong and Steve Quick in the 25 lap run.

Mike Powers got a good break at the start and hustled to his second win this season in the 25 lap cyclone main event. Roger Bohannon shadowed Powers for runner-up money with Tony Crowder, Frank Kelliher and Harvey Freeman next across the stripe.

The visiting Legends car main went to Richard Morlan over Jimmy Rodriguez and Ray Sasser while Wendy Mathis was the best of the TQ midget visitors in front of Joey McKinney and Murray Hall.
