Hialeah Cyclone Feature to Drury

by Marty Little
HIALEAH, Fla. - David Weaver jumped from his front row starting position to lead all 25 laps in winning Saturday night's late model sportsman feature event at Hialeah Speedway. Danny Maddox was finally able to run Weaver down, but the two made contact on lap 23 with Maddox spinning to bring out a yellow flag. Weaver had a good restart and claimed his second win this season over Billy Barnwell, Maddox, Bobby Shelton and Gary McGoron.

Former street stock champion Travis McCoy notched his second victory of the year with a wire to wire drive in claiming the 25 lap headliner for the street stocks. Steve Godlewski, who bested McCoy in the heat race, gave chase in the feature but settled for second money over Gary Padula, Mike Kohut and points leader Rick Lutz.

It was the Buddy and David show in the mini stocks once more as Buddy Sizemore easily outdistanced the small car field for the sixth time this season. Arch-rival and point leader David Russell checkered second over Kenny Strong, Tommy Styer and Steve Quick in the 25 lap event.

The largest field of the evening belonged to the cyclone division and it was David Drury in a first time drive for Tony Crowder who took the win. Drury led from the pole and was never headed in the 25 lapper, easily outdistancing Gabe Hernandez, Bruce Moerlins, Frank Kelliher and Harvey Freeman. Action continues every Saturday night at the historic Miami-area speedplant.
