It's time to race!

April 29, 2001

Turner Charlotte OWM 6-pack#2 Victor

The night's racing fun got underway with the Kix Country 92.9 Sportsman division heats. #94 Chuck Wolfe of Naples sat on the pole for the first six-lap heat race. Jim Keating of Bonita Springs took an early lead in the #107 car and held onto it for the win. #40 Jeremy Goddard of Naples moved up from sixth starting position to take second, followed by #94 Wolfe in third. Heat two saw #38 Ralph Goddard of Naples on the pole. Goddard held on for the win with #39 Phillip Johnson, also from Naples, right on his bumper taking second. #8 Raymond Jones of Arcadia came in third.

Gene Pack Jr. of Grove City sat on the pole for the first six-lap heat of the Hendry's Mango Maniacs Cowboy Cadillacs in the #2 truck. Pack held the spot for the win in the all green flag race. #24 Justin Bryant of Arcadia took second with # 44 Raymond Tucker Jr. of Ft. Myers in third. Heat two saw #46 Buck Wilson of Arcadia on the pole. Wilson won, crossing the finish line about half a fender ahead of #37 Cheryl Weaver from Port Charlotte, who took second. #91 Hugh Alexander of Punta Gorda came in third.

Wally Smith of Naples sat on the pole for the first heat of the Lee's Auto Detail & Transmission Pure Stocks in the #16 car. #11 Doug Spitzer of Cape Coral got loose coming out of turn two at the start of the race, collecting the #2 car of David Fisher from Naples. After the restart, #10 Eric Smith got turned around coming down the front stretch. #19 Greg Anderson of Port Charlotte fought hard to get to the front and take the win over #16 Wally Smith, who came in second. #2 David Fisher came in third. The second heat got underway with #99 Mark Collins of Cape Coral on the pole. Collins held the position for the win in this all green flag heat, followed by #31X Elbert Butts of Nocatee in second, and #91X John Plakiotis of Port Charlotte in third.

Twenty four cars lined up for the Suncoast Custom Pools & Little Vic's Concessions Modified Minis seventy five lap feature with #19 Steve Arnold of Cape Coral on the pole. The first caution of the race came out when #3 Danny Yates of Cape Coral got a little bump from #68 Ronnie Allen of Lehigh Acres in turn one. Allen went to the rear on the restart, but the yellow came right back out. The #1 car of Dave Moskwa of N. Ft. Myers had a fire under the hood. Moskwa got out of the car with no problems, but the car was in the pits for the night. #19 Arnold and #3 Yates had a side by side battle for the lead on lap six. Arnold got sent to the rear after spinning out of turn four, bringing out a caution on lap eight. The all-volunteer broom crew got a workout on lap nine when the #99X of Tom Clark from St. Cloud blew an engine. By lap thirty, #96 Frank Welch of Ft. Myers took the lead from Yates, and #1X Robbie Yoakum of Inverness moved up to second. By lap thirty six, #82 Jimmy Warram Jr. of Punta Gorda had made his way to fifth after being sent to the rear earlier in the race. Lap after lap, Welch, Yates, and Allen checked out on the rest of the field, while #82 Warram quietly picked his way into fourth. #96 Welch stayed out in front while a battle was raging for second. #68 Allen bumped in to #3 Yates on lap sixty-five bringing out the caution. Yates pitted with a flat tire, and Allen was sent to the rear of the pack. #96 Welch took the win, followed by #82 Warram in second, and #68 Allen in third.

#95 Chris Turner of Naples sat on the pole of the Budweiser Open Wheel Modifieds Six-pack #2 fifty-lap feature. Turner stayed in the lead as the field of twenty-six cars quickly spread out. Lap twelve saw a three car pile up when #80 Chris Dean of Ft. Myers, #25 Scott Kleiber of Naples, and #99 Doug Moff of Ft. Myers tried to avoid lapped traffic. Moff ended up in the pits. #92 Carl Hammond was disqualified for a crew member being on the track during a caution. The caution came out again on lap twenty-four when #31 Kurt Riley of Cape Coral bumped #20 Tommy Schnader of Tampa in turn four. On the restart, Riley hit the wall hard while trying to avoid two other cars that had gotten together on the backstretch, sending him to the pits. With eighteen laps to go, the #25 car of Scott Kleiber got turned around in turns three and four after a bump from #6 Kevin Williams of Port Charlotte. #95 Turner held on for the win, followed by #34 Wayne Jefferson of Pinellas Park in second, and #80 Chris Dean in third.

The Hendry's Mango Maniacs Cowboy Cadillacs fifteen lap feature got underway with #2 Gene Pack Jr. of Grove City on the pole. Pack took a nice lead over the field of eight trucks, but before too long #37 Cheryl Weaver of Port Charlotte was up front with him trying to challenge for the spot. #2 Pack stayed out in front in this all green flag race to take his first feature win. #37 Weaver came in second followed by #24 Justin Bryant of Arcadia in third. Bryant was later disqualified in tech for too much compression. Don Van Acker took the official third place spot in #69, owned by Randy Bates.

Fifteen Cars started the Kix Country 92.9 Sportsman twenty-five lap feature, and #94 Chuck Wolfe of Naples had the pole. #67 James DuBose of Arcadia, #8 Raymond Jones, also from Arcadia, and #27 Bryan Beckner of Naples got together on lap five bringing out the first caution, sending Jones to the pits for a flat tire and A-frame damage. On the restart, #67 DuBose also had a flat and had to pit. DuBose was done for the night. Lap twenty three saw #107 Jim Keating of Bonita Springs, who was running in second, get loose out of turn four and smack the side of #39 Phillip Johnson from Naples, sending him for a spin. On the restart, smoke billowed then flames erupted down the backstretch in a dramatic display as #107 Keating's engine blew. Keating got out all right. Track safety was on the scene with extinguishers before the car had even slid to a stop. #94 Wolfe took the win after holding the lead throughout the race. #39 Johnson came in second after starting tenth, and #22 Danny Yates of Cape Coral made his way up from thirteenth to take third.

The Lee's Auto Detail & Transmission Pure Stocks had started their feature but due to a red flag condition on lap 6 and the curfew the race was stopped to be picked up where they left off at a later date.
