Bohannon Big Winner @ Hialeah

by Marty Little
HIALEAH, Fla. - Cyclone division point leader Roger Bohannon enjoyed a very special Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway as he won a trio of feature events on the flat third-mile oval. Using his familiar outside lane run, Bohannon gained the top spot with three laps remaining to win the 25 lap Cyclone feature, his fourth of the season. Ken Rickert, who paced most of the event, claimed second money ahead of Mike Blinco, Heather Lunsford and Frank Kelliher.

The special 10 car Cyclone Race of Champions also fell to Bohannon as he drove past Roger Pfau on lap 22 to win the 25 lap run. Pfau, Bruce Moerlins, Tony Crowder and Lunsford completed the top five.

Gary Padula proved to be the best of the street stock runners as he worked past Mike Orth for the top spot on lap 10 then sped to his fourth win of the season in the 25 lap event. Orth never quit, staying close for runner-up money over Steve Godlewski, Mike Kohut and Rick Lutz.

Mini stock hot shoe David Russell blazed to his lucky seventh win of the season in the 25 lap run. Arch-rival Buddy Sizemore gave chase and stayed with Russell throughout to claim second money over early leader Kenny Strong, hot rookie Tommy Styer and Richard Thomas.

Bohannon wrapped up his special night with a good run in the 15 lap Figure eight main, guiding his Chevrolet left and right for the win ahead of George Morales, Steve Dielmann, Pfau and Tim Jones.
