MINI-STOCKS SHINE AS STALNAKER DUKE IT OUT AT BRONSON

by Gil Peck

Every once in a while, maybe three times a year at any given track, fans will be treated to a fantastic race and a close, near photo finish. Saturday night was no exception at Bronsons famed bullring as Tater Stalnaker and Jeff Stalnaker made it a family affair and thrilled the crowd with a fender to fender 20-lap duel to the finish. The finish was so close, that no one knew the outcome for sure until official word from the scorers. Larry Goolsby in his Cheifland Machine Shop # 27 was also in the scramble up front. Jeff had the lead early in the race, but it wasnt long until Tater closed to his rear bumper and looked for racing room on the inside. The car was great, said Tater, it would go high or low, and I waited for the opportunity to get by. But Jeffs car was strong, too and he had just a little more at the end. Great racing guys!

SUPER STOCK

The thunder and lightning stayed away in the skies, but it sure was evident on the racetrack Saturday night as the SUPER STOCKS did battle in their 20-lap feature. The race took a few extra laps to get started, while officials instructed Len Owens to get his gloves on! He had lost them inside the car and the race was held up while he frantically searched for them.. When the green did drop everyone was tightly bunched as Doc Batson , Wes Keller, and Al Bouchard took off in a battle for the lead. Docs Camaro was strong and was able to hold off challenges by Keller and Bouchard as he prevailed for the win. This is really FUN!, said Al Bouchard after the race. Its the way racing is supposed to be. I hope the fans enjoyed it as much as we did.. Als sponsor FTW Group and Cornerstone Kitchens out of Fort Meyers sure enjoyed the race. They travel up to Bronson every week. This is our first year in racing said Al and all the people here in the pits have made it worthwhile and have been so helpful, they said..

PURE STOCK

Gerry Hodge was the winner in the Custom Vinyl Lettering machine out of Cross City. Corkey Miley, driving the Miley Enterprises Camaro was second and Mickey Burns finished third. Mickey is in his second year at the bullring, making the trip from Hernando every Saturday night.

Racing resumes this Saturday night when the Late Models hit the asphalt for their 50-lap shootout. Be there for all the excitement as they join the rest of the Bronson Race Series field. Gates open at 5:30 with racing at 7: 30.
