Outlaw Modified News

Outlaw Modified Opening Night

Saturday night brought out a strong field of Outlaw Modifieds at Charlotte County Speedway. The season opener was a double points event sponsored by Race Engineering.

Two exciting heat races warmed things up. Heat 1 saw two very formidable drivers running up front. Newcomer, Mike Franklin, Sr. #27 showed that Jr. wasn’t the only shoe in the family as he led S.C. Klinger #87 around the track. Heat 2 had John Gilbert #77 in the lead closely followed by rookie Christy Boyett #94, a young 16-year old lady, who will be a force to be reckoned with before the year is out.

The feature was a great opening night show. Ted Hoverson in the #5 car pulled the pole position with a very mixed field behind him. As the race unwound, the #27 of Mike Franklin, Sr. and John Gilbert made their way to the front only to fade as the final laps approached. Several surprises finished up front, but to no surprise was S.C. Klinger finishing second after a little bump and run early in the race. Lance Hoverson #55 finished third. Rookie Robbie McElroy finished 4th and Dave Cochran #78 rounded out the top 5.
