New Smyrna Night 8

By Jane Smith
Night eight and everyone is bone tired. Missing in the
Super Late Model line-up are Jason Schuler, Steve Carlson,
and B.J. McLeod. But tonight is the l00 lap Super Late
Model event and drivers will be back in form for this
fast action event. Barry Willoughby joined the Super Lates
and brought in a 5th place finish and looked very good.
Jonathan Brown had the pole for the Super Late event in
one of Jimmy Cope's old cars but was unable to finish the
race after his run in with the wall.

The NASCAR Tour Type and S/K Mods had their l00 lap
event in style. This is one of the most exciting race divisions
a race fan can see. From start to end, especially on the racing
surface of NSS, these cars fly and if you like non-stop racing
noise, you will get your fill with these guys. Jamie Tomaino
got his first win of the event with Charlie Pasteryak hot on
his tail. And if you like car parts and used tired, the pits
of NSS are full of these.

In the final night of Sportsman racing, Rich Clouser got the
win in his #8 Olds. Saturday night will feature the Super
Stocks and the last night of the Allison cars.

The mods were flying once again with Jerry Symons leading
the way. After the crash of Thursday night, quite a few mods
were missing. But the Indiana boys have worked very hard to
keep their mods up in the top five and have done a great job
and hopefully will return next year with their racing expertise
and good humor.

Don Thompson, Jr. showed the Late Models how the #4 can
run. This was two wins in a row for Thompson. Randy Dye's
#43 Dodge hit the wall and was being taken home last night
for some well needed care. But some of the guys in this division
have worked their tails off to race and I personally give them
alot of respect. Brad May got his first win the other night and
has stayed in the top five since then. For Brad, this was a
well needed and deserved win and hopefully this will be a
new step for him and his racing career.

Tonight is the conclusion of the World Series of Asphalt
Stock Car Racing. For all the fans of the out-of-state
drivers that have written and asked about their drivers,
I have passed on your messages and wishes. For the
drivers from Florida and out-of-state, you are great
and I hope to see all of you again.
