Hialeah Action For February 10

By Marty Little
HIALEAH, Fla. - Danny Maddox shadowed Bobby Shelton for 10 circuits then blasted to the high side and went on to win Saturday night's 20 lap late model sportsman feature at Hialeah Speedway.

Shelton nipped Maddox for the win in the heat and the feature was sure to be another battle and the fans were not disappointed as the two veterans battled lap after lap with Maddox gaining his first win this season. Shelton was a very close second with Gary McGoron and Stuart Robertson next to the stripe.

Rick Lutz proved the best of the street stock set as he led wire to wire for his first victory of the young season in the 20 lap main. Sophomore runner Mike Kohut turned in a good drive for second money just nipping Jonny Kay with Mike Orth and Chalo DeCastro rounding out the top five runners.

Mini stock action saw Scott Rogers in his stubby Toyota jump to a quick lead and never look back as he led the entire 20 lap distance for his first win this season. Peter Lloyd, David Russell, Buddy Sizemore and Bill Calder chased the leader to the line.

The large cyclone field fell to the stout Chevrolet Caprice of Roger Bohannon as he hustled from the pole to nab his first victory of the campaign. Young Chad Orth turned in his best career drive to finish in the runner-up slot just ahead of Heather Lunsford, George Morales and points leader Roger Pfau.

The track will be closed on Feb. 17 for Daytona but action in all divisions will resume on Feb. 24.
