Jack Cook Scores Win at New Smyrna

David Rogers' #11 TM Ranch Dodge proved to be the fastest qualifier in the Super Late Models as he ripped off fast time and pulled a #3 pill for the inversion. The invert put the Bob's Space Racers Chevy on the pole, and except for Travis Kittleson leading the first few laps, Cook had the dominate car.

Rogers and Kittleson's Bob Steel Chevrolet looked strong, but they tangled on lap 53 sending both cars to the rear. A crash on lap 18 took out several good cars including Daniel Keene, Jr., Dennis Demers, Jim Flynn, and George Murphy s new #42 2001 MC. Bruce Lawrence stormed back from early trouble to be a contender.

Both Rogers and Kittleson made a good run from the back, and Jeff Emery in the #12E had a great night. At the flag it was Cook followed by Rogers, Lawrence, Emery, and Kittleson. In summary, it was some real hot racing and the fans seemed happy with the action.

A very big field of cars came out for the Late Model show, but Chad Allman drove a perfect race to hold off Mike Williams for the win. Billy Barnwell from Miami was back in a green #96 and took third. Chris Lawrence and Larry Osteen rounded out the field.

Tom Root was back in the #19 Dodge to dominate the good field of Modified cars. Mike Fitch put the #1 car in second, Dave Saviki ran third ahead of Jason Boyd and Alan McCafferty.

In the Mini Stocks Steve Griffin won the race by half a lap on the track, but failed to pass tech inspection due to a weight fastening problem. That declared the #05 of Rick Sirmans in the FASCATS Taurus the winner. Conrad Grenier #01 was 2nd over Ted Mr. Mini Stock Vulpius, Dale Casteel and Charlie Statts rounded out the top 5.

Big field of new and old cars in the Sportsman class. Old Veteran Dale Clouser put the #30 Chevy in the lead and got his second win of 2001. Doug Samion #04 gave it a good try and came home second in the Rinaldi car. Third spot went to Matt Griffin #7, Ron Lufcy in the #07 and John Nusbaum #70 were paid for the top 5.

Super Stock First Time Winner!
The Wildman, Chris Peludat #28 held off Rich Clouser in the #17 to bag his first NSS feature win. The crowd was very happy to see Chris get one. Bob Wines #7 had a good run and took third over Florida s most well known and loved Super Stock pilot, Homer Lady Killer Gordon. Joe Evans took home fifth place money in the #57.

Strictly Stock: 1st was Don Smith #22 Kerry Paine 2d, Richard Bolton 3d, #77 was 4th, and 5th was the #26 of Michelle Dyle. Darrell Woodbury is offering to sell custom made strictly stock cars for a low price. He has several cars ready to go at Sorrento Auto Salvage.
