New Smyrna Speedway Update

For the first races of 2001 for New Smyrna Speedway, the only word that can describe the action was heated. You already know that David Rogers won the Red Eye l00 and the other four top winners but here is the finishing order for all Super Lates:

1. David Rogers, 2. Daniel Keene, 3. Bruce Lawrence, 4. Dennis Demers, 5. B. J. McLeod, 6. Jason Burkett, 7. Travis Kittleson, 8. Ricky Wood, 9. Kenny Frohe, 10. Jim "Hoot" Flynn, 11. Bill Bryant, 12. Jeff Emery, 13. Scott Bramlett, 14. David Russell, 15. Jack Cook, 16. Wayne Anderson, 17. Pat Carter, 18. Mack Hanbury, 19. Dennis Benoit, 20. Michael Williams, 21. Justin Drawdy, 22. Barry Willoughby

It was Chad Pierce's 20th birthday and for most of the feature race for the Late Models, Chad lead. But it was not to be his birthday present and in the last lap of the race, Mike Murphy overtook the #57 and lead for the win.

1. Mike Murphy, 2. Chad Pierce, 3. Chad Allman, 4. Marty Pierce, 5. Bruce Lawrence II, 6. George Murphy, 7. Earl Beckner, 8. Mike Todd, 9. Butch Yoakum, 10. Timmy Todd, 11. Randy Strehle, 12. Ronnie Rucks, 13. Ricky Wood, 14. Geoff Williams, 15. Dustin Chambers, 16. Randy Dye

The Modified division saw the #81 driven by Ricky Wood and owned by Mike and Debbie Samples go to Victory Circle. Mike will be driving a Classic Car soon but that does not mean that you won't see the #8l mod anymore because you will. Debbie will be in charge of it (just kidding Debbie).

1. Ricky Wood, 2. Jeremy Fitch, 3. Joe Middleton, 4. Jason Boyd, 5. Bo Davis, 6. Eddie Shedd, 7. Jim "Hoot" Flynn, 8. Tom Root, 9. David Baxley, 10. Mark Vandevender

The Sportsman division saw a new winner for the 2001 first race. After the crash in the beginning of the race, Dale took the lead and never looked back. Congratulations Dale on your first Sportsman win for the 2001 season.

1. Dale Clouser, 2. Ron Lufcy, 3. Bobby Mara, 4. Brett Bultemeier, 5. Bobby Owens, 6. Doug Samion, 7. Kevin Hawkinberry, 8. Bobby Lee Good, 9. Angelo Arcure

The Mini-Stock division saw Robbie Yoakum and Steve Griffin battling it out for the win. Right behind them was "Mr. Mini-Stock" himself. But once again, it showed that the #lx and #3 are hard to beat.

1. Robbie Yoakum, 2. Steve Griffin, 3. Ted Vulpius, 4. Conrad Grenier, 5. Carl Green, 6. Rex Christensen, 7. Dale Casteel, 8. Jim Smith 9. Tim McPhail, 10. Chad Carpenter, 11. "Pug" Puglisi, 12. Bob Moyer

Homer Gordon took the first win in the Super Stock division for 2001 with a very hard charing Darren Gould behind him in the #67 Super Stock. Homer took the lead from the beginning and kept it to take his first 2001 win.

1. Homer Gordon, 2. Darren Gould, 3. John Hodge, 4. Mike Hendrix 5. Dale Carroll, 6. Bill Stacy, 7. G. T. Maloney, 8. Chris Peludat, 9. Joe Evans, 10. Stephan Dembinsky

The Strictly Stock division once again saw the blue #22 of Donnie Smith showing the way to Victory Circle. Behind Donnie was Bob Thrombley.

1. Donnie Smith, 2. Bob Thrombley, 3. Josh Wronkowski, 5. James Henderson, 6. James Lennin, 7. Michelle Dyal, 8. John Conway, 9. James Dyal, 10. James Adams, 11. Kelly Caudlit

And that was the way it was for the first race of the 2001 season at New Smyrna Speedway. The next race will be January 27th, the Orange Blossom 100 with features in all divisions. Also, on the l6th of January will be the Race For Kids Sake with NASCAR Dodge drivers in our Late Models. Gates open at 2 and racing starts at 7:00 with Mini-Stocks, Super Stocks and Modifieds also running.

See ya at the races - Jane
