It's time to race!

JACK COOK TAKES SUPER LATE MODEL WIN FOR THE LAST RACE OF THE YEAR

Racers love to race but it has come to the time of
year when everyone needs a break. Saturday night,
December 1, was the last night for racing at New Smyrna
Speedway until January 5. The pits were filled with
Mini-Stocks for the 100 lap Championship FMSC race
and drivers wanting to race that one last race of
2001.

The Sportsman division was the first to come out for
it's last feature race of the year but no one was
ready for what happened right after the green flag was
thrown. The #111 of Donnie Williams and the #47 of
David Gibbs somehow locked together with Gibbs on the
bottom and Williams on top sitting sideways on the turn
1 wall. If anyone wanted a good look at the bottom of
a racecar, this was their opportunity. Both Gibbs and
Williams were fine but it took alittle bit of work to get
the #111 off the wall and down. Once the wreckage was
cleared, it was the #07 of Ron Lufcy taking the lead
until the #7 of Dick Owens took over. In the field for
the first time in awhile was Ian Hoffman in his #3
Sportsman - nice to have Ian back for a race. Also
Homer Gordon was in the field with his famous number
#22 but racing sportsman not super stock. Top five
were: 1. #7 - Dick Owens, 2. #07 - Ron Lufcy,
3. #3 - Ian Hoffman, 4. #25 - Don Tracey, 5. #22 -
Homer Gordon

George Murphy's South Forty #40 sat on the pole for
the Super Late Model feature race and lead for quite
awhile. But it was Jack Cook's #96 working his way
to the front and taking the win. Ron DiCandio was
looking strong in his #20 and Craig Reynolds #2
had worked his way into fourth place when he backed
into the wall. For this race, the Super Lates and
Late Models were mixed to make the field a better
one. Top five were: 1. #96 - Jack Cook, 2. #40 -
George Murphy, 3. #20 - Ron DiCandio, 4. #16 - Bruce
Lawrence, Jr., 5. #7 - Matt Griffith.

The #25 of Chad Elliot sat on the pole for the Open
Wheel Modified feature but it was Wayne Parker in his
#3 taking the lead and winning the race. It was nice
to see Wayne win one since he has had some bad luck
in the past. Justin Henderson, last week's winner and
first time winner, did a great job finishing fifth.
Shane Held's #55, known more at Orlando SpeedWorld,
finished fourth. All in all, a great race for the
Open Wheel drivers for their last race of 2001.
Top Five were: 1. #3 - Wayne Parker, 2. #00 - Wayne
Southard, 3. #00 - Bobby Blake, 4. #55 - Shane Held,
5. #16 - Justin Henderson.

Mike Soukup's #45 had the pole for the Super Stock
feature event but it was Tim Ewing's #35 working
his way up to take the win. Joe Evans's #57 did
a great job of running a close second to Ewing.
Top five were: 1. #35 - Tim Ewing, 2. #57 - Joe
Evans, 3. #36 - Timmie Russell, 4. #67 - Darren
Gould, 5. #38 - Chris Peudalet

In the Strictly Stocks, it was the grey #11 taking
the win with the #38, #l, #11 black and #66 filling
the top five spots.

Join New Smyrna Speedway on January 5, 2002 for the Red Eye Super Late
Model Race. Hope your Christmas is jolly and bright
and that the New Year is everything you wish for and
we look forward to seeing you again at New Smyrna
Speedway for some great short track racing in 2002.
