HENDERSON GETS FIRST WIN IN OWM, CLOUSER TAKES SUPER STOCKS

By Jane Smith

With the l00 lap FMSC race next weekend at NSS,
the pits had a number of mini-stocks there for
practice for this much awaited for event. Rick
Sirmans, Steve Griffin, Clint Foley just to name
a few who came to test the waters before the big
l00 lap event.

The 2001 Street Stock Champion of DeSoto Speedway
brought back his familiar #8 car tonight (with a
for sale sign if anyone would like a winning car)
and showed us once again that the old 8 still has
it in her. Timmie Russell, a regular at Orlando
SpeedWorld, had his familiar #36 at NSS tonight
leading the race until Richard slowly moved his
#8 to the front. Dean McGloblin's #66 did a great
job tonight taking his highest place yet, fifth.
Also, after more than a two year absence, Joe Brogan
and the #63 was in the pits but due to a broken fuel
filter Joe will have to come back next week to show
off his new super stock. After 15 laps of really
good racing, the top five were: 1. #8 - Rich Clouser,
2. #36 - Timmie Russell, 3. #32 - Bill Stacy, 4.
#55 - Jim Snyder, 5. #66 - Dean McGloblin.

Ron Lufcy's #07 had the pole for the Sportsman race
but once again it was the #111 of Donnie Williams
going to the front and getting the win. Only four
Sportsman showed up tonight since points are over
and this was just pure fun racing so the top four
were: 1. #111 - Donnie Williams, 2. #07 - Ron
Lufcy, 3. #25 - Don Tracey, 4. #5 - Dave Rowe.

Jim "Hoot" Flynn had the pole for the Super Late race
but it was Tom Root and his #19 taking the lead and
leading for a good portion of the race. Mike Good's
#27 was running in third but had to go to the rear
and Mike did a great job of coming back and taking a
second place position. Also in the field tongiht was
Brad May in his familiar #10. In the end, the top five
were: 1. #57 - Jim "Hoot" Flynn, 2. #27 - Mike Good,
3. #19 - Tom Root, 4. #69 - Steve Avenger, 5. #40 -
George Murphy.

Dick Laszlo's #07 mini-truck had the pole for the Mini-
Stock race but it was Ted Vulipus's #71 and Conrad Grenier's
#01 that put on quite a show for the fans with their side
by side, no touching racing. Grenier spun and was sent
to the rear but he did a great job of working his way
back up front for a fifth place finish. Clint Foley's
#7x took over the second spot when Grenier spun and
was able to keep it for the remainer of the race. Top
five were: 1. #71 - Ted Vulipus, 2. #7x - Clint
Foley, 3. #82 - 4. #05 - Rick Sirmans, 5. #01 - Conrad
Grenier.

In the Open Wheel Modified divisoin, it was Justin
Henderson's #16 on the pole and winning from the
pole. Justin is the young man who hit the turn 4
wall going for his first win at the beginning of the
year and was helicoptered out of the track. Tonight,
he got his win, his first win. Also in the field
tonight was a father-son team, Jon Compagnone Sr. #5
and Jon Compagnone, Jr. #26. Jon Compagnone, Jr. was
the NASCAR Track Champion at Volusia Speedway Park in
his Open Wheel Modified before the asphalt track was
given a rest. I would like to add here that when
Justin won last night, for me and others that was what
local racing is truly about. A young man who has
struggled and his dad with no help except their own
pockets and to come back from the kind of accident he
had, well, that was one win well deserved and timed
just right for my son's ninth birthday. Alex, Justin
and Ralph all together in Justin's first win photograph.
A night we all will remember for many years to come.
Top five were: 1. #16 - Justin Henderson, 2. #57 -
Jim "Hoot" Flynn, 3. #70 - Jason Williamson, 4. #99-
Jeff Anderson, 5. #26 - Jon Compagnone, Jr.

Barry Parks's #27 was on the pole for the Strictly Stock
event but it was a very hard charging #38 of Bob Thombley
who took the lead and well kept it to take the win. The
#25 (Scott VanAlstine's car at one time) did a great job
of taking second place. Rounding out the top five were:
3. #61 - Scott Lees, 4. #27 - Barry Parks, 5. #48 - David
Smith.

Next week, December 1, will be the last night of racing for
New Smyrna Speedway until January 5, 2002. All divisions
will race next weekend plus the l00 lap FMSC Championship
race. Please join us as we close our racing year for
New Smyrna Speedway and look forward to a great 2002 season.

Jane Smith
