Super Show at Charlotte County

by Danny Snow

The Outlaw Modifieds took to the track for the first twenty five lap feature race of the night with #23 Mark McElroy on the pole. #87 S. C. Klinger took the early lead on lap three and never let go. Klinger held on for the win with #67 C. J. Haycraft in second and #55 Lance Hoverson in third.

Up next were the TBARA Sprints and their twenty five lap season finale feature race. #10 Matt Mercer sat on the pole for the field of seventeen cars. With only three cautions, this was one quick race. #10 Mercer took the win with #3X Bo Hartley in second. #22 Wayne Reutimann came in third in the race, and also took first place in the Season Championship.

The Open Wheel Modifieds Six Pack #6 began their feature with #25 Scott Klieber on the pole. Fifty laps and only five cautions made for another pretty fast race. #25 Klieber held on to the lead and took the checkered flag with #95 Chris Turner in second and #1J Wayne Jefferson in third. #72D James DuBose landed the Six Pack Championship.

The final race of the night was the Super Late Models 3rd leg of the Triple Crown. #00 Dick Anderson, showing why he is the "King of the Florida short tracks", started on the pole and never looked back. Anderson led all one hundred twenty five laps.

After running in second place for over three-quarters of the race, #75 Brad Barkis was closing in on the #00 when they started to encounter lapped traffic. Barkis spun on lap eighty four. He didn't make contact with anything, but his car was over heating and he ended up in the pits for rest of the race. #33 Scott Walters came in second and #10X Mario Gosselin rounded out the top three taking third. #88 Travis Kittleson ended up winning the FASCAR Sunbelt Super Late Model Triple Crown Series Championship.

This was the first time in over ten years the triple crown was held at Charlotte County Speedway. These drivers put on one of the best shows we have seen in along time. Good clean and very fast racing. We hope to see them again next year. Thank you to the staff of this truly "Super Late Model Series" from the fans and the Southern Thunder staff of Charlotte County Speedway in Punta Gorda!
