Gimmler takes TQ Midget Race at Charlotte

Our first feature race of the night was the Hendry's Mango Maniacs Cowboy Cadillacs with #7 Bryan Maine on the pole. #8, Richard Martin took the lead on the first lap but by lap four it was #33 Don Van Acker out in front. #2 was in second by lap six, but hit the wall on the backstretch on lap nine and had to head to the pits. For the final nine laps of the race #33 Van Acker had to drive hard to keep #37 Cheryl Weaver behind him, but was able to hold on for the win. #37 Weaver came in second, and #8 Richard Martin took third place.

The Florida Midget Racing Association was up next for their twenty five lap feature race with #16, Rod Anderson on the pole. #80, Wendy Mathis spun in turn one on lap four, and #16 Anderson was still on point for the restart. Lap twelve saw a lead change as #51, Mark Gimmler took over the top spot. #51 Gimmler held position to take the checkered flag followed by #3 Jack Duffy in second and #15 Murray Hall in third.

#38 Ralph Goddard sat on the pole for the Kix Country Sportsman thirty five lap feature race. At the end of the first lap #39, Phillip Johnson got sideways in turn one. As cars behind him bumped and spun trying to avoid each other, #9 Jerry Bryant hit the outside wall and had to make a quick pit stop. #38 Goddard dominated the race, holding the top spot from start to finish. #22 Danny Yates came in second and #67 James Dubose took third.

The Limited Late Models took the track next for the Collier Electric Six Pack Race #5 for one hundred laps. #88 Randy Fox sat on the pole of the fifteen car line up. Just after the first lap was completed #62 Buzz Martin hit the wall going into turn one resulting in heavy front-end damage and ending his night of racing. #88, Fox, #29, Mike Hovis, and #29G Mike Greenwell were lined up first, second, and third early in the race and held position to finish in the same order.

The final race of the night was the Shirley's Bookkeeping Rebel Road Warriors' twenty lap feature. Twenty cars lined up with #3B, John Boyer on the pole. A lap seven collision while battling for position sent #3B Boyer and #20, Lonnie Retherford to the pits for a time passing the lead off to #55, Conrad Molter. Just past the half way mark in the race #02, Scott McDaniel got loose and was sideways under the flag stand. With no where to go, #36 Scott Schroeder slammed into McDaniel bring out the red flag, Prompt Towing, and the all-volunteer broom crew. #55 Molter held on to take the win followed by #68H John Hanuschik in second and #36V Brian Verhaagh in third.

It was an exciting night at the Home of Southern Thunder and we hope to see you next week for the Leg Three Triple Crown Race. One hundred twenty five laps of Super Late Models!
