Winchell wins Gosney Memorial at Hialeah

HIALEAH, Fla. - Joe Winchell chalked up yet another victory in taking the 10th annual Al Gosney Memorial 50 lap event for late model sportsman cars Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.

Topping the 16 car field in time trials, Winchell wasted little time in getting to the front in the feature as he got around Gary McGoron on lap six and never looked back enroute to his sixth win of the season. It also marked his sixth win in the Gosney event since it began in 1991. Charlie Coyle gave chase from his sixth starting spot but settled for runner-up money over McGoron, Danny Maddox and John Covington.

Mike Kohut held off the challenges of Gary Padula to capture the 25 lap street stock main. T.C. McElyea paced the first three laps before Kohut took command and registered his second win of the season. McElyea guided his his new Chevy to third spot at the checkers over Ron Wilson and Mike Orth.

Mini stock point leader Eddie Lowery topped a short field of the small cars as he outran Bill Calder, Tommy Styer, Jerry Woodall and Steve Quick in the 15 lapper.

Roger Bohannon inherited the cyclone win when apparent winner Mark Bradley could not pass post-race tech inspection. Frank Kelliher in his brand new Camaro was second ahead of Bryan Cook, Victor Leo and Harvey Freeman in the 25 lap run.

The special 25 lap feature for pick up trucks saw local driver Marc Goss run to a wire to wire victory. Ford mounted Curt Haywood was second over Larry Moyer, Charlie Worth and Paul Grynewicz.

Doug Capps topped the mini cup cars with Mike Harrison second and Ceasar Bacarella third. The kid's Hornets feature fell to a dominant Zane Reid in front of David Dielmann, Mike Blinco, Jr, Romeo Henderson II and Alex Horta.
