Skinner Scores LMS Victory at Columbia

by Marty Little
LAKE CITY, Fla. - Fain Skinner grabbed the lead from Roy Crain on lap six and sped to the victory in the 25 lap late model stock headliner Saturday night at Columbia Motorsports Park. Crain set the early pace from the pole but young Skinner was not to be denied as he motored into the lead and never looked back. Don Hale, making his first start of the season, gave chase but settled for runner-up money over Jeff Prescott, Crain and Robert Fraley.

Matt Walker and Mike Bennett each led early laps of the 20 lap Florida modified main but it was Roger Webb in command by lap 12 and he sped to yet another victory on the half-mile oval. Bennett crossed the stripe second ahead of Rick McManaway, Greg Nordstrom and Walker.

The 20 lap street stock feature went without a yellow flag as Ray Wheeler jumped from his second row starting spot to lead every circuit. Charles Seroki closed on Wheeler but could never challenge for the victory and settled for second spot. Nick Reid, Brad Fiene and Oral Tanner rounded out the top five finishers.

Pure stock points leader William Jerkins scored another win to move past the dozen mark for the season. Jerkins and his familiar No. 13 paced each of the 20 laps to checker in front of Matt Stafford, Nevin Gainey, Rick Day and Anthony Crain.
