Double Features at Columbia

by Marty Little
LAKE CITY, Fla. - Back behind the wheel after a couple of years away from the sport, Pete Richadson showed that he still had the touch in winning both 25 lap late model stock feature events Saturday night at Columbia Motorsports Park.

In the make-up feature from the week previous, Richardson grabbed the top spot from Shannon Adams on the second lap then held off Jay Middleton for the victory. Adams checkered third over Jeff Prescott and Fain Skinner.

For the second main event Chris Tedder paced the dozen car field for 11 laps before Adams took command but it was short lived. At the halfway mark Richardson, coming from the rear of the field, grabbed the top spot and never looked back enroute to his second victory of the evening. Middleton, Michael Faulk, Prescott and Adams completed the top five finishers.

Gene Owen paced the first five laps of the opening 20 lap Florida modified main but it was veteran Roger Webb to the lead on lap five after the two made contact and Owen was sent to the rear of the field. No one challenged Webb to the checkers but Owen did rebound and claim runner-up money over Shawn Taylor, Rick McManaway and Mike Bennett.

The nightcap showed Matt Walker leading the second modified run for the first 12 laps but by the halfway mark it was Webb out front once again and he too hustled to his second win of the night. Walker did checker second over Taylor, McManaway and Owen. Nick Reid tracked down Ray Wheeler on lap 19 and took the win in the make-up street stock 20 lap event. Prescott turned in a good drive for second money ahead of Wheeler, Charles Seroki and Dave Barber.

The second feature started Barber on the pole with the inversion and he took advantage of it to lead all 20 laps for the win. Seroki, Reid, Wheeler and Ronnie Crawford chased Barber to the checkers. Pure stock points leader William Jerkins was strong once again, taking the make-up headliner in front of L.H. Davis, Nevin Gainey, Danny Coleman and Bobby Morgan. Davis came out on top of the regular 20 lapper with Jerkins in his shadow at the checkers. Gainey, Matt Stafford and Lamar Anderson chased the lead duo to the stripe.
