Hialeah Roars Back into Action

by Marty Little

After being dark for two weeks Hialeah Speedway roared back into action Saturday night with veteran Danny Maddox scoring a wire to wire victory in the 25 lap late model sportsman headliner. Wheeling the familiar No. 82 Titus Pontiac, Maddox got a jump on the field at the outset but could not shake Gary McGoron who shadowed him every lap to collect runner-up money. Greg Kaouk, Todd Anglani and Bobby Shelton completed the top five finishers.

Making his first start in six weeks, Mike Orth had an easy time in winning the 25 lap street stock finale. Starting from the pole, Orth simply motored away, outdistancing Mike Kohut, Craig Seewald, Gary Padula and Rick Lutz for his third win this season.

David Russell returned to mini stock action after some time away to regroup and collected wins in both his heat and the 25 lap feature. Patiently working his way through the field, Russell grabbed the top spot on lap 16 from Tommy Styer and was never headed, leading Tim Jones, Jerry Woodall, Steve Quick and Bill Calder to the line.

Harvey Freeman inherited the victory in the 25 lap cyclone feature when apparent winner Mark Bradley could not get his car through post-race inspection. George Morales, Roger Bohannon, Bruce Moerlins and Mike Powers completed the top five runners.

Roger Pfau topped Morales and Tim Jones in the 15 lap figure 8 run and Steve Christesen topped the special D-J event. Florida Pro Series late models return to the speedway on Oct. 6 for the annual Bill Flingos Memorial 100.
