DAVID SIMPSON TOPS LIMITED LATE MODELS / MOTHER NATURE HALTS REST OF SHOW

by Ken Sands
After 3 weeks of no racing due to inclement weather, it looked like Mother Nature was going to finally have her win streak come to an end. After an opening ceremony honoring America, the Limited Late Models took to the track to complete their main event from a few weeks earlier which was stopped at lap 5 due to the weather.

Phillip Brower was in pursuit of the Buddys Home Furnishings 100 days same as cash bonus of $1100. Brower looked like he would claim the bonus as he began to pull away from the field, but the great equalizer, the yellow flag, came out and bunched the field back up, putting David Simpson right back on the rear bumper of Brower.

With just 3 laps to go, Brower drifted a little high and David Simpson seized the opportunity, as he powered under Brower and took the lead going into turn 1. Simpson then held on through lapped traffic to claim the win and deny Brower the bonus money. Jamie Burrows slipped by Brower on the last lap to get second, Brower held on for third over Jeff Mathews and Ricky Land. The nights regular racing program then began.

The Street Stocks, Limited Sprints, Late Models and Mini Stocks all got their heats in, just as the Sprint Cars were lining up for their heats a Thunderstorm came and knocked the power out, leaving the track in total darkness, after the power came back on, the track was too wet to resume racing and the show was called.

Mother Nature has not been kind in the month of September as a complete show has yet to be run. The folks from Q Motorsports and the Alan Kulwicki Foundation were on hand to present a Scholarship to Casey Johnson, the presentation took place in the press tower out of the rain. Congratulations Casey.

Racing will reume ( weather permitting ) next Saturday with the Limited Sprint Mr. Budweiser race in addition to a regular show for the Sprints, Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and Limited Late Models. The Pure Stocks will also be on hand.
