LATE MODELS HIGHLIGHT ACTION AT THE NEW BRONSON

by Gil Peck
Every Saturday, one continues to see the exciting improvements at Bronson's NEW Motor Speedway. Tommy Dunford, Charlotte, Debbie, and Jimmy continue to inject the new enthusiasm that makes this venerable speed palace an exciting place to visit on a Saturday nite. Roger Damron and Doc Batson had something to say about that too as they battled all feature long for the loot at the end of the rainbow in the Late Model Sportsman division. Gene Owen joined these two and it was a three car shootout until, with just two laps to go in the 50-lap feature, Owen lost the motor in his Monte Carlo., allowing Roger Damron to scoot by. Damron had literally been all over Gene's ( Owen's) bumper all night until the incident brought out the caution. On the re-start, Damron jumped into position to try to pass Doc Batson. On the last lap, in turn four, he nosed the car inside of Doc, but couldn't quite make it stick in what was a photo finish. " I knew he was there, you could FEEL him, said Doc Batson after the race. He raced me clean and hard. It was fun.! Jerome Brown and Bruce Gaskins tangled in turn two of the event. Both cars went to the rear on the re-start, but Jerome was able to work his way through the field and finished third. " It was a rough ride tonite", he told me after the race. I had a little trouble with a couple of guys, (Gaskins and Brock Oglesby tangled with him on his ride to the front) but it still was a lot of fun." This talented driver will be back and he'll give everyone something to think about as he marches to the front, He already has a win under his belt in this hotly contested division.

SUPER STOCKS

Al Bouchard, Wesley Keller, and Bubba Hodge were at it hot and heavy as they scrambled for the lead for the entire length of the 20-lap feature in this ferocious division. On lap # 13, things got interesting as Doc Batson and Wes Keller got together in turn three. They " shared paint" until turn two, when Wesley's car got go turned sideways and spun. Both cars went to the rear on the restart, and Bubba Hodge, who has been having some spectacular runs lately, shot by Al Bouchard and scooted into the lead. They finished one-two, while Keller and Batson worked their way through the field to finish third and fourth respectively. Come on out on Saturday night and watch this wild division scramble for not only victory, but pride.

PURE STOCKS

Jason Holbrook had the Rebstad Transportation/ Tampa Spring Camaro " hooked up" again on Saturday night and scored the win over Doug Webster in this popular division. Doug and Jason are good friends and had pitted side by side Saturday night as I kidded them before the race. " Which one of you are going to win tonite?", I kidded them. " You must be planning stategy right now!". They are just a part of a great group of guys and one terrific lady, Krystal Batson, that do battle every Saturday. Mickey Burns and Donnie Roberts were at it "tooth and nail" as each of them fought for position. Mickey, got by Donnie on lap 16 of the event and went on to finish third.

MINI-STOCKS

It was Goolsby and the Stalnakers ( maybe a new book) as Jeff Stalnaker, Sr, Tater Stalnaker, and Larry Goolsby diced it out for the lead in the Mini-Stock feature. Tater had a new car under him and Larry was running a new engine in his # 27 Mini-Stock as they kicked off the feature. Jeff Stalnaker was back and made it a three way event as he and Tater fought it out for second place. Goolsby went on for a relatively uncontested win, but, be sure, these three will be back for more this week.

Come on out and enjoy all the fun at THE NEW BRONSON SPEEDWAY this and every Saturday night. The Classic Coupes and the exciting new MINI-CUP series will join the rest of the Bronson regulars for a good show. Get there early for prizes and surprises and a night of family fun. Gates open at 5:30pm. Racing at 7: 30
