South 40 Motorsports Named Presenting Sponsor Florida Governor's Cup 200

Samsula, Fla. - New Smyrna Speedway announced today the presenting sponsor for the 37th running of Florida's Governor's Cup 200 on November 9th is South 40 Motor- sports and South 40 Graphix in Mims, Florida.

The Governor's Cup is considered to be the most prestigious race in Florida short track racing that showcases Florida's finest Super Late Model drivers.

General Manger George Murphy of South 40 said, "When the track called and asked us to consider being the sponsor for this year's race, it was a good deal for both the track and South 40. It was a good decision and would definitely help get the word out about our new Graphix Company and South 40 Motorsports."

Owner Bob Shearer, George Murphy and Michael Williams, Shop Foreman, have done a great job of building South 40 into a wining one-stop race shop. Larry Osteen, Matt Griffin, and Mike Murphy have all had South 40 built cars and been to Victory Lane. But they can and do work on any kind of racecar from stockcars, drag cars, to classic cars.

Shearer, who has 27 classic cars from 1950 to 1970 in his 25,000 square foot shop, came from the capital city of car building Detroit, Michigan. When Shearer moved to Florida, he met George Murphy who worked on his classic cars.

Little did Shearer and Murphy know what was in store for them when they got into stockcars. Thus in late 1999, South 40 Motorsports was born. Then Murphy, who knew Michael Williams from racing, asked Williams to join the team as shop foreman. Recently South 40 Graphix was added to the "One Stop Race Shop" making it truly a one stop shop.

When Bob Shearer drops the green flag on the 37th Governor's Cup 200 Sunbelt Super Late Model race and also the last leg of the Triple Crown, he will see his shop foreman go for the golden cup and his name added to it. Michael Williams is leading the points for the Sunbelt Super Late Model Series over David Rogers and also sits third in points for the Triple Crown.

"To win the Governor's Cup is an honor but to win and be the sponsor, that would be really something," said Williams. "We are ready for the challenge."

South 40 Motorsports and Graphix is located in Mims, Florida. The toll free number is 1-866-722-3740 or local 1-407-349-3057 or you may reach them by e-mail at www.south40racing.com.

The 37th Governor's Cup 200 Sunbelt Super Late Model weekend will begin November 8th with open practice for the Super Lates on Friday night. Qualifying will begin at 6 P.M. on Saturday, November 9th with racing at 7:30 P.M.
