Jerry Symons Takes Pro Modified 50 Lapper at New Smyrna Speedway

by Jane Smith

Samsula, Fla - Seventeen of Florida's best Open Wheel Modifieds gathered at New Smyrna Speedway for a 50 lap Pro Modified race Saturday night. Michael Williams in the South 40 Motorsports Open Wheel Modified set fast time and sat on the pole for the feature event.

But it was New Smyrna's Jerry Symons who quickly took the point on the green and never looked back. With only two cautions in the 50 laps, fans saw plenty of hot action.

Lap 25 saw the first caution for Jim "Hoot" Flynn as Tank Tucker was fighting for Flynn's spot. Coming down the backstretch, Tucker got under Flynn to rattle his cage alittle but rattled too hard turning Flynn sideways and pushing him down the backstretch. Flynn was done for the night and Tucker was sent to the rear.

On the restart, Symons still led the way with Michael Williams, Bryna Campbell, Brad May and J.F. McClellan in the top five.

Only two laps later, lap 27, Tucker, Red Vann, and Rob Partelo got together in turns 3 and 4. All were fine but done for the night.

Symons once again led the way with Williams, Campbell, May and McClellan. McClellan and May do alitle side- by-side for the fourth spot but May holds strong. Lap 46, Williams brushes the frontstretch wall but continues on his charge towards Symons.

Lap 49 Wayne Parker makes a charge on McClellan, makes it work and takes over fifth.
