by Rick Anges

Bradenton,Fl. - This week DeSoto Speedway announced the "Modified Race of Champions". a 125 lap $3,000 to win race November 23rd with Champions from across the state of Florida being a guaranteed starting position. DeSoto has always been a hot bed of Open Wheel Modified racing and this race will take it to the next level.

The 35 lap feature for the modifieds was a taste of things to come as early in the race the top three cars tangled on the front stretch with the 5 car of Ronnie Campbell getting the worst of the deal crashing hard into the concrete wall ending his night early.

Eventually D.J. Hoelzle 8 took the lead by a hard running 92 Steve "the Rattle Snake" Perez and it looked like clear sailing as he built a straightaway lead but Hoelzle's victory was almost ruined when the lapped car of Kenny Vaughn spun infront of the leader. D.J. was able to get hard on the binders narrowly avoiding a serious collision and then going on to take the checkered flag. The 12 of Jay Coleman was able to get by Perez to take the second spot, fourth was 13 Mike Leacock and rounding out the top five was 15 of Bill Davis.

Limited Late Models

The 35 lap Limited Late Model feature was dominated by pole sitter 34 Jeff Dufresne as he took the green flag and never looked back easily taking the win. Fast qualifier Martin Pierce who blistered with a 15.00 second run had a rough night of it spinning several times. Dufresne took the top spot follwed across the line by 63 Dewayne Bryan, 62 Ed Howell, 10 Steve Dorer and 107 of Glenn Morris

SARA Pro Trucks

Racin' Mason Love 70 had the field of 15 Pro trucks covered and won by a convincing margin. Early in the race the top 6 ran side by side for the first several laps running door handle to door handle and trading sheet metal but when the smoke cleared Love had taken the checkered flag, following him across the stripe was the 7 truck of Bill Davis, the 94 of Shane Russ came from mid pack to take the third spot in fourth was 29 Tim Shaffner and rounding out the top five was the 29g of Jeff Guilbalt.

Modified Mini-Stock

Chip Gaines 72 was the big winner in the 20 lap feature holding off the 44 Clay Joseph who took the second spot. The X of Greg Krom had good run and took third, fourth was the 8 of Tim Harmon and Jeremy Warram 82 was fifth.

Street Stocks

Matt Scheffler 10x roared his way to the front to take the trophy and another feature win in the Street Stock class passing the 71 of Darrin Ellis in the second to last lap, Ellis had run Scheffler tough holding the point for quite a few laps before Scheffler was able to make the pass, Ellis had to settle for the second spot, early race leader Casey Hall 11 crossed the stripe in third, 8 Sue Purrington took fourth, and in the fifth spot was the "Zebra" car 15 Lucky Brown.
