by Larry MacMillan

With a one-week time out, Citrus County
Speedway race teams will use a Thursday and Friday open
practice to get back on track and kick off the second
half of the 2002 season.

With 18 races left in the season, there is plenty of time to get back into the point race with an extended tuning and testing session. Six
divisions will turn up the RPM's this weekend and make the chase for the crown exciting to the end on November 16th.

Late Models will meet in the "Crystal Motor Car Citrus
Show Down 125" with Dickie Anderson, James Powell, Lee
Faulk, Jony Kay, Mike Franklin, Ricky Carlton, Scott
Grossenbacher, Scotty Crockett, Daniel Keene and Daniel
Keene, Jr. who are regulars on the Sunbelt Series plus
local hot shoes Rex Struble, Raymond and Perry Lovelady,
Jim Smith, Billy Bechtelheimer and more.

Qualifying trials will set the first 16 positions with the
fast qualifier taking home a $500 bonus and drawing the
pill for the front-end inversion. Over thirty entries
will set up a consi race to qualify the next six spots
plus two promoters choices for a total of 24 starters.

When the green falls, they will be going for a $5,000
to win purse and $2,500 going to second and paying the
final nine spots $250.

This will be a Late Model appreciation night for their
participation in the Winter Spectaculars and the previous
125 in the first half of the season with the $150 entry
fee waived. This will also be the last chance to prepare
for the second leg of the Sunbelt Governor's Cup Series
set for August 3rd at Citrus.

With the new configuarion of the 3/8ths mile racecourse
there will be two and three car, side-by-side racing and
passing most everywhere on the track. Race drivers, who
have participated in the earlier races, love the new lay-
out and enjoy racing and appreciate the cooperation and
acceptance of the fans and management at Citrus.

Saturday night will also see the Sportsman making pre-
parations for their "Citrus Truck Accessories 40" set
for next Saturday night. Street Stocks, Mini Stocks,
Hobby Stocks and Thunder Stocks will also go in feature
races to make a full night of action at Citrus. Figure
8's return for once a month action on July 27th with
five races left in the season.

There will be two more Late Model Show Down 125's in
September and October for $5,000 win purses on the line.
Citrus County Speedway will wrap up the Late Model
specials with the "Fall Finale 150" on November 2nd
for $7,500 to win. Citrus is becoming the Late Model
Capital of central Florida.
