McLeod Pulls Out Third A.A.C.S. Win At DeSoto Speedway

By Rick Anges

B.J. McLeod and crew put together win number three in the A.A.C.S.

Bradenton, Fl. - Travis Kittelson #88 came out and blazed around the high banks of DeSoto Speedway Saturday night and was the low qualifier for race number eight of the All American Challenge Series.

The track appeared to be a little slick as several of the usual top cars were slipping and sliding coming out of the turns but Kittelson had his ride hooked up for his two lap dash.

Kittelson was not as fortunate during the feature event. As his tires wore the car became loser and loser and eventually he hit the turn four wall a ton ending his night.

When the die was rolled it landed on the #1 which only inverted the two cars on the front row putting B.J. McLeod #78 on the point for the 125 lap feature event.

When the green dropped McLeod was out front and never looked back, several drivers made a run at the #78 including Jimmy Cope #61, Kittelson and last race winner #12 Justin Drawdy but as each driver made his shot at the leader McLeod would just power his away winning the feature easily.

Shane Sawyer #38 had a really good run and was able to take the second spot, third was the #12 of Justin Drawdy, fourth went to the #07 of Jeff Scofield and rounding out the top five was the #75 of Dave Pletcher.

Limited Late Models:
Martin Bub Pierce looked like the car to beat, as he was top qualifier for the Turner Tree and Landscape Limited Late Model feature.

Several cars battled for the lead with Pierce including the #34 of Jeff Dufresne as the two were coming out of turn four it appeared some gear oil had been laid on the track causing contact and sending Dufresne spinning in a cloud of smoke.

A wild Late Model wreck on the front straight
When the smoke cleared it was veteran driver Edward Howell #62 coming out on top followed by Jason Crossey #17 in second, Dufresne was able to gather it back up and take third, fourth went to the #67 Chad Allman and fifth #22 Larry Osteen.

Open Wheel Modifieds:
Pat Nanney #60 took his Mopar to the front of the pack and won the Open Wheel feature holding off the #80 of Chris Dean who was later Dqed in tech for illegal calipers. This gave the second spot to #15 of Bill Davis, third to Rocco Ranallo #67, fourth was last weeks winner Steve Perez #92 and finishing in the top five was #8 D.J.Hoelzle.

Sportsman:

Lonny Miller #98 finaly got all the bugs worked out of his new machine and took the sportsman feature win ahead of #3 of Johnny Casady who was also the Timber Wolf hard charger winner for the night. Third went to the #41 of Gus Coorssen fourth was #67 of Duane Best and rounding out the top five was the #69 of Keith Neff.

Pure Stock:
Jason Esposito #23 barely kept all the pieces on his car and roared across the finish line to take the Pure Stock feature with a fender hanging and hood flapping. Mark Picklesimer #6 had a good run finishing second, Smokin Joe Wengard #30 took third fourth went to the #8 of Rob Taylor and fifth was the Mopar of #7 Howard Higgins.

This coming Saturday, June 29th DeSoto fans get treated to monsterous fireworks show and a 200 lap Enduro feature. Also on tap are the Open Whell Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks, Mod Mini and Cowboy Cadillacs.
