Super Late Models Return to Bronson Motor Speedway

By Jane Smith

Owning, operating a racetrack, and that is any racetrack, any size, is not the easiest job there is. It takes long hours, a good staff, one that you can trust, and local fans and drivers that love and support the track.

Success does not come overnight.

On July 13th, Bronson Motor Speedway will host the biggest race of their new life with Mike Cope as the owner and a very dedicated Tommy Dunford by his side.

The event will be a Super Late Model 100 lap Shootout with a $20,000 purse and a possible $4,500 winner's purse.

Fans will see Dick Anderson, Jimmy Cope, Travis Kittleson, Dave Pletcher, Mac Johnson, Kevin Durden, Lee Faulk, Tom McCann if he gets his car ready in time, and many other great Super Late Model drivers of Florida.

You never know who will show until you get there but Mike Cope is well respected and has many friends in the Super Late model division in Florida and they will show to support him and his new track.

Fans will be treated to a new scoreboard which is up and running at the track, plus if you have not been to Bronson Motor Speedway since Mike Cope bought it, you will also see many more improvements to the track and facility including new stands.

Mike's goal is "to make fans want to spend their time and money at Bronson Motor Speedway for some good old local track racing."

Tommy Dunford. General Manager at Bronson, said "we are trying to help our drivers. We understand that it is expensive to race and we are trying to help racers by not requiring certain amounts of fuel be bought or tires".

"We do not charge parking fees for haulers. Our goal is to help the drivers and give the fans one heck of a show at a reasonable cost."

Friday night, July 12th, there will be practice under the stars and lights from 4 to 10 p.m. Secure transporter parking and free camping will also be available along with a free bar-b-q on Friday night.

Pit gates will open at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 13th with practice at 4 p.m. and qualifying at 8 p.m. Top 24 cars will be locked in for the feature race.

If more than 24 cars show, the top 2 cars will transfer from the consi race to the main event to make it a 26 total car field.

Sunbelt and Florida Pro rules apply for the race. Fast Qualifier will receive $500 with second and third fast qualifiers receiving $300 and $200 respectively.

If the fast qualifier should also win the race, an extra $l,000 will be passed on to the winner. The entry fee, which includes driver's pit pass, is $150.00. If it should rain, rain date is set for Sunday, July 14th, at 2 p.m.

Fans will also be treated to Bronson's Sportsman, Pure Stock, Mini Stock and Enduro racing divisions. If you would like further information, visit the new Bronson Motor Speedway website.
