Citrus County Speedway Brings Back Figure Eight Racing

Revamps Late Model Schedule

By Larry MacMillan

Citrus Promoters Billy Hooker and Jimmy Wear continue to work on improving the racing venue at Citrus County Speedway.

A change in the scheduling seemed to be the answer with four additional Late Model Citrus Show Down 125s added and moving the Fall Finale 150 to November 2nd from October 26th.

With the additional races, all worth $5,000 to win and a total purse of $18,450 plus fast qualifier money that puts it right at $19,000. The Fall Finale 150 will pay $7,500 to win with a $2,500 bonus to a winner of one of the previous 125s should they take the win in the Finale.

There will be a Late Model Citrus Show Down 125 on July 13th, August 3rd, September 7th and October 12th. There will be Friday night practices prior to each Late Model special.

Figure 8s are due back on a once a month basis and will run their first race on Saturday July 27th, going for 30 laps and a $375 win purse, $225 for second, $125, for third, $110 for fourth and $90 for fifth. Sixth through 9th pays in minus $10 increments. Tenth thru 24th will pay $40 for starting the race and running at least two laps.

Regular racing continues over the next two weeks featuring Late Models, Sportsman, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Thunder Stocks. Citrus will take a break for the for the Fourth of July weekend and turn the action back on with the first Citrus Show Down 125 on July 13th. Sportsman will run the Citrus Truck Accessories 40 for $700 to win on July 20th. Figure 8s return to wrap up the month of July with all seven divisions running on July 27th.

Rex Struble held onto the Late Model point lead with his win last week and put a little cushion over Raymond Lovelady who had his Dad running for his and locking in a third place finish on his behalf. Strubles lead is 86 points.

Mike Veltman joined the 7-win club and extended his Sportsman lead over Bill Oestreicher. Travis Nichols holds the Street Stock lead over Mike Bell with James Green in hot pursuit. Robbie Yoakam, another member of the 7 win club just missed number 8 last week with runner up Rob Wheatley taking his 3rd win in Mini Stock action.

Tommy Smith and point runner up Richie Smith both have 7 wins on their Hobby Stock resume. Josh Teague, Stuart Madison and Robert Jordon are in the chase for the Thunder Stock crown with Teague needing just one more win to join the big seven club.
