Florida Motorsports Report: Presses Ready to Roll

Motorsports journalists Bruce Hassy and Chris Cook are set to unveil the premiere edition of Florida Motorsports Report on the weekend of March 2nd. The new weekly publication is being launched in partnership with KARNAC.com, now in its sixth year of providing Internet news and entertainment for race fans.

The weekly newspaper will initially be distributed at the local speedways around the Sunshine State and the pair of journalists will put the emphasis totally on the local short tracks.

"We are excited about the start of the new season and are looking forward to being the only newspaper covering local racers every week," said Chris Cook, Managing Editor. "Most media sources [Daily Newspapers, TV] don't realize that there is a lot of racing action outside of NASCAR. We want to fill that void."

Bruce Hassy summed up the marketing strategy for the new venture "When we moved down here in April 2001, we noticed that there wasn't any local coverage in print."

Unlike many magazine formats this publication will focus solely on Florida's local short track racing scene.

"Our whole focus is local short track racing, nothing else, we're not covering the national series, only the local tracks, you will see lots of pictures from the local tracks, you will see lots of stories from the local tracks, you will see lots of quotes from the local tracks, you won't see anything about NASCAR", says Hassy.

Hassy and Cook are originally from the New England area where they developed years of experience writing about motorsports. The publishing duo were guests on the KARNAC.com Racin' Talk Radio show this past Thursday to announce the publication's debut.

"For the last eight years, we have been covering Winston Cup and Busch series for some of the larger daily papers up in the Northeast." Bruce Hassy continued, "Just in the last five years we were writing for five different papers dealing with local tracks, we were having a great time we were dealing with the Busch North Series, the Featherlite Modified series. We did a lot of heavy coverage for them, but more importantly doing a lot of pro stock stuff, we look forward to taking that same enthusiasm, that same coverage level we had up there and bringing it down to an area that has no coverage."

"This is a great partnership, there's great synergy, we're not looking to go onto the Internet, you guys have great coverage on the web, great color photos", Hassy added.

KARNAC.com Marketing Director Robert Brown noted, "This a new thing, where you have KARNAC.com and a newspaper working hand in hand to promote Florida short track racing. It's a great thing. We have been working on this all week and from where we are standing this is very exciting, and we think it's going to be a great deal for everybody."

Florida Motorsports Report will be available at most local tracks in Florida the weekend of March 2nd.

Look for the your copy this Saturday in the Big Red Box.
