| O'NEAL SWEEPS RENEGADE DIRTCAR ACTION AT EAST BAY!!! | 
Don O'Neal of Martinsville,IN made it a clean sweep of Renegade DirtCar Racing Series sanctioned action at East Bay Raceway in Tampa,FL Friday. Driving the Petroff Towing/O'Neal Wood Products/B-Auto Parts No. 71o O'Neal Racing C.J. Rayburn Race Cars/Pro Power Racing Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo, O'Neal grabbed the lead from Shannon Babb on lap 18 and then held off Billy Moyer by three cars lengths pocketing the $30,000 top prize for his win in the "26th Annual Winternationals 100". O'Neal copped both the Monday and Tuesday events and with his win Friday, O'Neal pulled the hat trick to the tune of over $42,000 in winnings to give him six career Renegade DirtCar Racing Series victories.
Steve Francis, who started 17th, rode home third with 26th starting Rick Eckert just nipping 19th starting Davey Johnson at the checkered flag for fourth. Eckert did not start the ISKY RACING CAMS Dash due to a blown engine, brought out a back-up car for the feature event and according to rule had to start at the tail. Rounding out the top ten were Terry English in sixth followed by Donnie Moran, Steve Shaver, 15th starting Dan Schlieper and 23rd starting Rick Aukland.
At the drop of the green flag pole sitter English jumped in front at the end of the first lap trailed by Billy Drake, Babb, Shaver and Rob Blair. Babb grabbed the lead from English on lap 7 and one lap later entered lapped traffic. With ten laps in the books the top ten running order had Babb with the lead followed by English, Drake, O'Neal and Moyer then Shaver, Blair, Francis, Dale McDowell and Schlieper. O'Neal quickly worked his way past English for second running the middle groove around the semi-banked 1/3rd mile track and took the lead from Babb exiting turn four to become the new race leader on lap 18. The races first of nine caution periods came on lap 20 when Donnie Moran slowed in turn four.
O'Neal quickly opened up a lead on the restart and kept his mount out in front for the next ten circuits until the yellow waved again when Babb slowed with a flat tire. The restart order was now O'Neal the leader followed by Moyer, English, Drake and Francis followed by Schlieper, Johnson, McDowell, Aukland and Jackie Boggs. Five laps later the caution was waving again as Babb slowed to a stop with a broken transmission. Cautions again on lap 43 and 49 slowed the pace with the halfway mark of the race showing O'Neal and Moyer still one and two followed now by Francis, English and Johnson then Schlieper, Drake, Boggs, Aukland and Moran.
With three quarters of the race in the books O'Neal enjoyed a four car length advantage over Moyer with Francis, English and Johnson still third through fifth trailed by Schlieper, Moran, Eckert, Shaver and Aukland. Cautions on lap 77 and 79 slowed the pace once more but the final 21 laps went caution free. O'Neal kept himself in the middle to top groove with Moyer three car lengths back. With ten laps to go Moyer had cut O'Neals advantage to one car length but Moyer slid wide exiting turn four allowing O'Neal to open his lead back up to five car lengths. Moyer could do nothing but watch as O'Neal completed the race three car lengths in front.
The $63,000 event drew 86 drivers for the event with Earl Pearson Jr. topping the field in CARRERA SHOCKS "Challenge the Clock" time trials with his quick lap of 14.623 seconds. Taking BRODIX,INC. heat race wins were Blair, English, Shaver, O'Neal, Moyer and Moran. The MASTERSBILT RACE CARS "B" Mains fell to Chub Frank, Johnson and R.J. Conley while English earned the feature pole with his triumph in the ISKY RACING CAMS dash. The Morgan Farms "Non-Qualifiers Strawberry Dash" fell to Jeep Van Wormer.
