Casey Johnson is Young Gun "Hot Shoe" for 2002

by Leo Dougherty

CaseyJohnsonCasey Johnson,16,of Sarasota, FL won the Young Guns Shootout for 13 to 20 year olds, in convincing fashion, pocketing $1500.00 for his 15-lap effort and taking home a new sprint car chassis to boot. He set fast time for the night, took the lead from the pole and was never threatened by the rest of the field.

Ohio driver Jeff Banyus flew in from Ohio Saturday just for this race but flipped his car in turn one on the opening lap. He was unhurt but unable to continue in the race.

Once the race officially got underway it went the distance without another yellow. Second place went to Greg Leonard and third to Christi Passmore. A complete finish will be posted later tonight or tomorrow morning.
