Third Annual "Race for Kids Sake" is Set for January 14, 2002 | Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Volusia County and WESH TV have announced the third annual "Race for Kids Sake" will be Monday, January 14, 2002 at New Smyrna Speedway in Samsula, Florida. Set to appear this year for the annual event from NASCAR are Kyle Petty, Mark Martin, John Andretti, Johnny Benson, Buckshot Jones, Robin Pemberton, Hut Stricklin, Ray Everham and Casey Attwood.
Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Volusia County use the event to help fund the many functions they do for the community's children. Their mission is simple, "they try to put a friend into a child's life and put hope in their future." Many of the children are fatherless and mother- less some even both but with caring, loving guidance from the Big Brothers/Big Sisters, they get the adult love and care that children need to grow into responsible adulthood.
On the program for that night, besides the Winston Cup stars who will race local Late Models, will be Super Stocks, Mini-Stocks and Strictly Stocks. There will be no purse money as all money for the night is donated to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Volusia County. But it is a night for all to come out and shine and help these children. The driver and one crew member will get in free this night to help support the event.
Grandstand gates will open at 5 P.M. with racing at 7 P.M. Advance tickets, which can be bought at Speedway Dodge and SunTrust Banks, are $15.00 or $20.00 at the gate. Children 12 and under are free. After the NASCAR race, there will be an autograph session with all the stars.
