Champions Crowned at Auburndale

Last night of the season, and the Champions were crowned. The special events of the night were, Racing for Kids Club, Dwarf cars,& Dwarf Powder Puff.

The Kids Club were the first race of the night, with the Seniors & Juniors taking to the track. Seniors raced first of the two groups, with # 2 Orrin Wright taking the lead right away, with # 36 Laura Weaver going to second # 97 Craig Cuzzone third, and # 49 John Cummins fourth. Lap 2 John Cummins charged up to the third spot, while Laura Weaver was closing in on Orrin Wright for the lead, with laps winding down Orrin Wright held on for the victory, Laura Weaver second, John Cummins third, & Craig Cuzzone rounding out the field.

Juniors race was next up, with a big field of cars in the race. # 29 Matthew Cummins took to the front, with # 24 Dustin Riley second & # 01 Casey Howell running third, by lap 2 # 58 Pamela Weaver took the third spot over, with # 11 Daniel McClain moving up to fourth, and Casey Howell to fifth. While this was going on in the middle of the pack, Dustin Riley was challenging for the top spot. Caution came out when # 11 Daniel McClain was running up front ran into trouble when he met with the wall between turns 1 & 2, he was able to continue, but later pulled in because of damage done to his car. Restart lap 5, no challenges after the late caution, so the winner of the Juniors race was # 24 Dustin Riley, second was # 29 Matthew Cummins, third went to # 58 Pamela Weaver, and rounding out the top five were # 01 Casey Howell and # 10 Michele Deaton.

The next race to rumble onto the racetrack were the V-8 Pure Stocks, with a 16 car field it was bound to be an exciting race. # 32 David Holland & # 99 Jason Deaton brought the pure stocks to the green flag, David Holland got the lead, with Jason Deaton challenging on the outside for 2nd.By lap 2 # 31 Mike Pitts was up front for the lead, # 46 Chris Narramore Jr. going for 2nd and # 37 Rob Hockaday was up in the thick of things going for 3rd with Jason Deaton on the outside of him going for the same spot, and # 65 Brian Harbin up in the top 5. While running 2nd David Holland got into the # 46 of Chris Narramore Jr. and spun, he had to restart in the rear. Restart had Chris Narramore Jr. leading with Brian Harbin 2nd, Jason Deaton 3rd, Brian Harbin 4th and Mike Pitts with the 5th spot.

Lap 4 restart, they were nose to tail when another caution came out, because of # 25 Jeff Davis had a trail of smoke coming from the rear of his car. Starting again, Rob Hockaday went to the front to battle for the lead, while a good battle for 5th was going on between Mike Pitts & Jason Deaton, two groups of three were racing spots 1-3 and spots 4-6. With 5 laps to go, # 07 blows his motor and the leader Chris Narramore Jr. had no where to go, and gets collected in the slick stuff , ending his night. Restart with only 10 cars running, the finishing order didn't change and # 37 Rob Hockaday took the win Brian Harbin # 65 2nd, # 31 Mike Pitts 3rd and 4th & 5th respectively were # 00 Rodney Peterson & # 99 Jason Deaton. After post race inspections the # 31 Mike Pitts was DQed in tech.

Mini-Stocks were the next feature race, on the pole position was Wayne Weaver # 58 and beside him was # 7 Jay Kaminski. Green flag # 7 Jay Kaminski took control of the race and was in the lead, with # 9 Robbie Storer to 2nd, and Wayne Weaver third. Wasn't long before Robbie Storer was up front in the lead, going to the inside of Jay Kaminski, while # 88 Burt Morse was on the outside for 4th spot over Wayne Weaver. # 77 Lee Davis was up to 6th from starting back in the field. Burt Morse making a challenge for the 3rd spot on the outside, and moving up was Lee Davis to 5th, then 4th as he passed # 8 Tim Harman, Robbie Storer had a big lead over the field, lap 19 # 55 Chris Hamlett got into the front stretch wall ending his night of racing. Restart, Robbie Storer, Jay Kaminski, Burt Morse, Lee Davis, and Tim Harman were the top 5, bunched up for the restart, racing again, Burt Morse goes to the inside of Jay Kaminski for the 2nd spot, but caution comes out # 97 Ritchie Acres and # 01 Donnie Howell got together and # 01 spun in turn 2, and they had to go back to last completed lap, which put Burt Morse back in 3rd. Restart with 3 laps to go, and no changes were made in the top 5 finishers, so Robbie Storer finished the season with another victory, followed by Jay Kaminski, Burt Morse, Lee Davis and Tim Harman.

One of this weeks special events were the Dwarf Cars, 18 cars on the track # 33 Paul Hunsberger and # 22 John Godwin making the front row. At the start # 33 Paul Hunsberger takes the lead, John Godwin 2nd, followed by # 74 Allen Davis, and # 66 Chris Harrison 4th, lap 2 # 77 Bill Burback fell out because of mechanical failure, battle for 1st as John Godwin took the lead, and Allen Davis was up to 2nd, Paul Hunsberger 3rd. John Godwin went way high in turn four allowing Allen Davis to take the top spot and pull away. Half way through the race, # 50 "Mad Max" Howe up to battle for 3rd, then he went to the inside of John Godwin for 2nd, 5 laps to go "Mad Max" catching up with Allen Davis, but with one lap to go "Mad Max" drops out with engine failure and # 74 Allen Davis goes home with the victory, followed by # 22 John Godwin, # 33 Paul Hunsberger, # 17 Jimmy "Gator" Wagner and # 12 Dennis Archinal. The Dwarf Powder Puff was ran with just 2 cars, the winner was "Leighann", the other name wasn't available but, "YOU GO GIRLS"!

The Street Stocks were on the track next to entertain us, with a field of 19 cars. # 1 David Roberts and # 31 Donnie Harp were on the front row. First lap # 82 Aaron Williamson spun on the backstretch, with everybody holding their breath, he was barely clipped by # 63 Chris Kingham, while at the same time on the frontstretch we had a loose tire going into turn one. Complete restart, David Roberts took the top spot again, one lap completed another caution for # 26 Ronnie Miller spun in turn 4.Running in the top 5 were David Roberts, #2 Paul Gibbs, # 12 David Williamson, # 69 Bob Gorsuch, and # 56 James Wright III, caution again for flying sheet metal hanging off the side of # 63 Chris Kingham which was from damage done in a heat race accident, restart Aaron Williamson and # 08 Jim Orisich banging together with Aaron Williamson spinning on the backstretch for a second time, he wasn't able to restart his engine so he retired to the pits. Green flag out again, # 1 David Roberts pulling away, with 5 laps to go he wasn't challenged and took the win with # 2 Paul Gibbs 2nd, # 12 David Williamson 3rd, # 69 Bob Gorsuch 4th, and Points Champion James Wright III rounding out the top five.

The fastest division of the 1/4 mile are the Limited Late Models, with 17 cars starting the feature race. # 7 Steve Black and # 31 Wendell Guy made up the front row, Steve Black went to the front on the start, with Wendell Guy following but his brother # 32 Shane Guy spin in turn 2 causing the caution. Complete restart, # 71 Dave Dunkin jumps to the outside of # 21 Von Pope to pick up 8th position, another caution # 44 Tim Gullett spun and collected # 9 Robbie Storer both up to the wall in turn four, both able to resume racing. Restart Dave Dunkin steps to the outside again to get a few spots up to 5th, half way through the race # 55 Richard Elkins Jr. with a big lead, with Steve Black 2nd, Wendell Guy, and Ollie Harbin. With 3 laps to go and the "Championship" within his reach, Dave Dunkin passes Ollie Harbin and moves up to 3rd, caution for a slow # 50 Tav Gary, restart and Dave Dunkin again moves up a position past Steve Black for 2nd, but # 55 Richard Elkins Jr took the win with # 71 Dave Dunkin 2nd, third went to # 7 Steve Black, # 31 wendell Guy 4th, and # 65 Ollie Harbin fifth spot.

Last feature race of the 2001 season was the 4-CYL Pure Stocks,11 cars in the field with # 68 David Purvis getting the lead early on, but not for long when # 60 Greg Valdez passed him for the top spot, good battle between # 8 Ritchie Acres and # 96 Larry Chumney Jr. for the 3rd and 4th positions, caution # 06 Jared Guy got together with the # 58 Chris Palmer in turn two, that sent Jared Guy to the rear of the field. Restart lap 2 Greg Valdez leading with David Purvis, Ritchie Acres, Larry Chumney Jr, and Dewayne Guy the top five, # 38 Michael Margotta moves up to 5th position around Dewayne Guy, while Larry Chumney went to the outside of Ritchie Acres, it was a good race while they were side-by-side for 4 laps, Larry Chumney Jr. finally made the pass. Lap 13 caution, # 18 Jerry Wingfield doing the "BAJA" coming out of turn 4 which made the battery sling to one side, losing a cable which made his car stop on the track. Restart with 2 laps to go, Ritchie Acres got together with Larry Chumney Jr. and Chumney Jr. went for a spin, Ritchie Acres was "black flagged" for actions on the track, which moved # 38 Michael Margotta into 3rd postion. But with post race inspections, # 60 was DQ in tech, so # 68 David Purvis took the win, with # 38 Michael Margotta 2nd, # 27 Dewayne Guy 3rd, # 58 Chris Palmer 4th,and # 06 Jared Guy.
