Sport Allen wins Goodson Farms USCS Florida State Championship event

Barberville, Florida - Sport Allen from Pinellas Park, Florida, repeated as the United Sprint Car Series finale winner by besting the stellar 30 car field from 10 states and pocketed the $2600 top prize in the 30 lap Goodson Farms Florida State Championship Race at Volusia Speedway Park on Sunday night driving Taylor Andrews, Dayton Andrews Dodge sponsored #88. Blue Ribbon Farms added $100 to the top 3 spots in the main event also.

Allen won last season's final USCS event at East Bay Raceway and this one brings his USCS win total to two. The jubilant Allen stood next to what he said is "The largest trophy I've ever seen," in victory lane while being congratulated by Goodson Farms President, Donn Goodson, and said, "I really wanted this one bad and the car was just perfect, it was driving just like I was on asphalt."

As the green fell on lap one 2000 USCS champion, Kenny Adams, who started on the pole entered first turn and spun after contacting Benton Ridge, Ohio's, Greg Wilson. A complete restart was in order as Adams retired to the infield. On the restart Mike Brecht from Dreshler, Ohio leaped in front of Wilson, then, Allen moved past Wilson on lap five for second place, and took up the chase behind Brecht. Marshall Skinner from West Memphis, Arkansas who started in eighth, followed him in third with Wilson slipping to fourth. The previous night's winner, Terry McCarl, Pleasant Hill, Iowa, moved in behind Wilson, coming up from his eleventh place start. Brecht lead the first 15 laps before Allen raced into the lead and started to pull away from the field to lead the final 15 laps to victory lane.

Brecht held on for second over Wilson in Bob Hampshire's #1w and McCarl followed in fourth while, Findlay, Ohio's, Chad Kemenah rounded out the top five.

The second five was headed by Eden, New York racer, Mike Woodring in sixth, followed by, USCS 2001 champion, Terry Gray, who won the Airflow Research Super Power Dash earlier in the evening and started eighth in this one. Johnny Gilbertson from Dover, Florida, driving the Goodson Farms #6 finished in eighth, Jimmy Mabe from Hope Mills, North Carolina, was ninth and Chris Rogers who started in the twenty-first position completed the top ten. Rogers was actually lapped by the leader, Allen, then drove back by the winner and unlapped himself and was possibly the fastest car on the speedway at the race's end.

Heat races were won by Skinner, Gray, Jeff VanDusen from Englewood, Florida, and 1997 champion Red Stauffer from Winter Park, Florida. Jim Raptis from Marietta, Georgia won the B-main. Rogers garnered the Huggins Cams "Hardcharger" award for his exciting performance from deep in the field.
