Third Leg of Florida Triple Crown Set For Charlotte County Speedway

Mark your calendars, the date is now set, Sunday November 4th the third leg of the prestigious Triple Crown will be run at Charlotte County Speedway's Southern Thunder. Last year over 30 of the finest Super Late Model racers raced in the Triple Crown, which runs on Friday at Orlando Speedworld and Saturday at New Smyrna Speedway and Sunday afternoon at Charlotte County!

The Thunder will return to the Punta Gorda racetrack with some of the top late model drivers in the state and the southeast. The high powered Sunbelt SUPER Late Models are all-out racing machines that are actually faster and higher tech machines then NASCAR cars that run on the big tracks on Sundays. Names like Anderson, Powell, Rodgers, Shelnut, McLeod and more are expected for the final race of the three-race deal.

The infield will be clear of haulers so the fans in the stands will be able to see all the action going on around the track and there will be plenty of that. With the wide sweeping turns(70 feet) there will plenty of hard driving for the win.

The Triple Crown has been run on and off for the last 19 years and the names of the drivers on this list is long and known across the country. But out of all these races no one has ever won all three races. Dick Trickle, Butch Miller, Mario Gosselin and a few others have won two but there has never been a three-time winner. Could it happen this year?

Its always possible.

Along with the Super Late Models will be an Open Wheel Modified 6 Pack race and the Awesome Charlotte Road Warriors for a whole Sunday of racing! Florida race fans won't want to miss the last three big Super Late Model races of the year at Orlando Speedworld, New Smyrna Speedway and Charlotte County Speedway Southern Thunder.

Although Don Nerone had all but given up on running the three event race, KARNAC.com got involved and suggested to promoter Don Nerone the possibility of running the race at Charlotte County. KARNAC.com has had several meetings recently with new owners of Charlotte County, Christian B. Felden, Peter J. Drinkwater, Victoria E. Felden and Simon Vainer and will be working closely with the speedway on promotional and advertising programs.

When Nerone expressed the interest time was of the essence as the race was close at hand. A meeting was set up between the owners and Nerone and all the details were worked out in short time and the race was set. Victoria Felden, a Naples Attorney and co-owner of the speedway, expressed the enthusiasm taking hold at the speedway "We're so excited, everybody is excited, fifteen people at the track running around..." General Manager Jon Hall said "The new owners are showing their aggressiveness and intent to put on great shows for the fans and also a great place for racers to run."

As Don Nerone says "this will be 125 Lap War on Wheels!"

Listen to the announcement, and history of the triple crown and Charlotte County..
