ANDERSON GETS HAT TRICK AT SPEEDFEST 2000

00

Dick Anderson of Wildwood, Fla. got some help from a lapped car 22 laps into the 35-lap Super Late Model feature at Florida Speed Park to overtake the dominating Jeremy Rice and then went on to
win his third race in a row during SpeedFest 2000.

"Jeremy had me covered tonight," said Anderson. "We really just got lucky. If it hadn't been for that lapped car getting tangled up with him we would have been sitting back there where he is. Of course 30-years of experience
doesn't hurt either."

Anderson emerged from his No. 92 following the win and immediately began inspecting the rear wheels only to find the right rear hub had broken and was only being held on by one lug nut.

"We wouldn't have made one more lap. We really were just lucky tonight."

Rice, competing in only his fifth race in a Super Late Model dominated the early portion of the event from his pole starting position. Up to the point that the youngster began encountering lapped traffic around lap 20, he had
been able to put some distance between himself and Anderson. But in traffic Anderson was able to close on, and eventually pass the Royston, Ga. native.

Randy Fox picked up another third place finish in the SLM event followed by "Big Jim" Kelley and Thomas McCann.

A spectacular crash on front straight in the Baby Grand StockCar Association 25-lap main event took out two of the front runners, Allan Canady of Raleigh, N.C. and Shane Loney of Rolla Mo. and red flagged the event for more than 20 minutes. The two cars were sent tumbling after getting tangled up coming off turn four finally came to rest about 100 feet past the start/finish line sans the entire body on both cars. Both Canady and Loney climbed from the wreckage
unhurt.

Steve Mendenhall of Clayton, N.C. went on to win the Baby Grand feature.

The 50-lap Allison Legacy Series event was one by Dan Doeler of Uniontown, Ohio who also won the combined three-race point battle with the highest finish in the three series events during SpeedFest 2000.

In the Modified division, Jeff Lane of Knightstown, In. took home the winner's hardware after a hard fought battle between him and Coldwater Michigan's John Gearhart. Joe Beaver came from his fifth starting spot to finish third ahead of John Raney and Kim King of Cincinnati.

The Meadowood Homes Championship Auto Racing Series wound down their SpeedFest 2000 appearances with a win by Robert Amos in a scheduled 50-lap affair. The event was actually shortened to 25 laps because of a heavy fog that rolled across the speedway limiting visibility and spreading a layer of moisture on the racing surface.

Bill Harkins won the 25-lap Truck race over Eddy Van Meter and Rob Miller.Morris Coffman and Brandon Fagin rounded out the top five in the Truck division.

Friday night the TBARA Winged Sprint Cars roll into town as part of a nine-feature-event night that will highlight all of the regular Florida Speed Park racing divisions plus the Daytona Antique Autos and of course, the Winged Outlaws of the TBARA.

Gates will open at 4pm for this special Friday night show and the admission price is just $15 for adults, $8 for Students and Sr. Citizens and $5 for children 7-12.
