                  Royce Johnston is Back!

Former Florida short track racer Royce Johnston is on the comeback trail at the age of 59 after a 15 year absence.

Royce Johnston once a regular at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. He was one of the most popular drivers in the northwest Florida and south Alabama areas.

His racing career started in 1967 and ended in 1983 due lack of financial backing. He raced with the likes of Jody Ridley, Red Farmer, Jerry Lawley, Wayne Niedecken Sr., Buck Simmons and many others in that area. He raced in many Snowball Derby's in Pensacola and qualified on the outside front row for the first Snowball Derby, won incidentally by Wayne Niedecken.

Royce has held track records for late models at Five Flags, Mobile Speedway in Alabama, and South Alabama Speedway in Opp Alabama.  He started back to short track stock car racing in 1998 and finished fifth in the Super Stock division at the 1998 Snowball Derby. This year he has raced for points at South Alabama Speedway in Opp Alabama competing in the Super Stock Division. With the season season just completed last weekend on October 2, 1999 where he won the season ending championship race.

He was also crowned overall 1999 Track Champion for having accumulated more points than any other driver an all divisions. Royce registered a track best of 10 feature wins in the 1999 racing season.

Johnston is planning on being back in the late model division for the 2000 season. He is schedule to run at Five Flags Speedway on October 29, 1999 in the first ever Snowflake 200 and again at the Snowball Derby competing in the super stock class while waiting on his new late model to completed for the 2000 season.

The SnowFlake 200 is the third of three qualifying races for the $100,000 bonus to win the Snowball Derby.

 11:00 AM Pit gate opens
 2:00 PM Grandstands open
 2:00 – 4:00 Late Model practice (clear gate as necessary)
 4:00 Drivers meeting (Modified/Super Stock/Spectators draw for starting position)
 4:30 – 6:30 Modified/Super Stock/Spectator practice (clear gate as necessary)
 5:00 Late Model pre-qualifying tech commences
 6:30 Late Model qualifying (first round) (lock in top 20 positions)
  National Anthem and Prayer
  Followed by (in order):
  Spectator 35 green flag lap feature
  Super Stock 35 green flag lap feature
  Modified 35 green flag lap feature

 10:00 AM Pit gate opens
 11:00 Grandstands open
 11:00 – 1:00 PM Practice (clear gate as necessary)
 1:30 Drivers meeting
 2:00 Pre qualifying tech commences
 3:30 Top 20 qualifiers – rigs out by this time
 3:30 Late Model 2nd round qualifying (lock in positions 21 – 36)
 5:00 21st – 36th qualifiers – rigs out by this time
 5:00 Last chance/consolation race (laps to be determined by number of cars).
Top four (4) finishers have option to move to 37th through 40th starting position in Snowflake 200.
 7:00 37th – 40th qualifiers – rigs out by this time
 7:30 All vehicles lined up on front in respective positions
  National Anthem and Prayer
 8:00 The Inaugural Snowflake 200
