                                      Speedweeks 1999 Are Coming

In just a few short days it will be 1999 and only 365 days from the magic year
of 2000.  Even though we have some bad things happening here and it gets
a little scary, we have to believe that there is a tomorrow and better days to
come.  Some are looking forward to seeing their tracks back in action and some
did close for awhile and some had time-off for the holidays.  But for those of
us that are lucky enough to live in the Central part of Florida, we have a
very magic time of our year coming up in less than 40 days - SpeedWeeks 99.

Lake City, Volusia County, New Smyrna Speedway all have SpeedWeeks that run
during the time of the Daytona SpeedWeeks.  You can see 9 straight nights of
racing at New Smyrna Speedway, go to Volusia County and see the famous World
of Outlaws and go to Lake City and see the Classic Cars in their SpeedWeeks.
It is alot of fun and so many different kinds of racing to be seen that you
could really easily cut yourself into thirds to see everything you want to and
still miss something.
But if you truly love racing, this is our magic time of the year.

And if things go as usual, this will also be the coldest time of the year for
racing.  This is the time that fans must take blankets and sleeping bags and
drink lots of hot chocolate and coffee to stay warm.  It is the time that
drivers and crews bring propane heaters and build small fires in the pits to
stay warm.  Or like we did last year, use your grill as a fireplace and just
keep adding charcoal.  You can easily serve up 30 or more cups of hot
chocolate to all the drivers and crew members that are parked close to your
pit.

SpeedWeeks bring in alot of out-of-state drivers to our local tracks.  Most
are here since their tracks are still closed for the season and if you need to
practice, Florida is the place to come.  Even though they never stay longer
than a few months, this is a great bunch of guys and alot do return year after
year to our tracks.  You can and do make friends for a lifetime and you get to
hear alot of interesting differences between the southern tracks and northern
tracks.  But it makes no difference in the end since we are all alike and race
happy.

So for me and maybe for alot of you, I look forward to February 5 and the
start of SpeedWeeks l999.  May all the drivers be safe and hopefully we will
see one another at one track or another soon.  HAPPY SPEEDWEEKS FLORIDA.
