To ensure you have the most current ste of rules and any changes please contact New Smyrna Speedway at 904-427-4129. These rules ar only valid for Orlando Speedworld and New Smyrna Speedway.


 1999 Rules - Sportsman Division

1.  CARS:  Any American made car.  l970 or newer.  l0l" wheel base minimum.

2.  ENGINE:  Strictly stock as originally produced.  Must be available in that
car the
     year of the body used but does not have to be the same year engine as the
body
     used.  Stock replacement parts O.K. .358 CI maximum.
     A.  Any hydraulic or flat tappet cam.
     B.   Strictly stock location.
     C.  Ignition - OEM or single point Stock electronic O.K.  Supercoil O.K.
NO MSD.
     D.  Carburetor-stock.  Choke may be removed.  Holley 44l2 optional.  l"
maxi-
           mum adapter.
     E.  Manifold-stock. cast iron only.  No aluminum, no high rise.
     F.  Exhaust headers optional.
     G.  Heads:  Any stock OEM straight plug steel heads with maximum intake
           l.940/l.50 exhaust, World Products S/R head O.K.
     H.  Flat top pistion only.
      I.   Stock appearing rod, original length for engine used.
      J.  NO ELECTRIC FUEL PUMPS.

3.  WHEELS/TIRES:
      A.  l0" wide, steel racing wheels ONLY
      B.  FASCAR stamped.  Track approved tires ONLY
      C.  Tires must "punch" 48 minimum on the durometer - ALL 4 tires - at
all times
      D.  No Wheel Weights.

4.  BODIES:
     A.  Stock appearing bodies only.  No fiberglass body parts.
             EXCEPTIONS- Fiberglass hoos are ALLOWED.
      B.  6 Point Roll Cage l 3/4" O.D. minimum.  Roll cage not to leave
inside of
            car.  Four door bars on left side, three door bars on right side.
May use
             front or rear roll cage loop.
       C.   No excessive cutting.  Doors may be cut out for roll cage door
bars.  Any
              interior body panel that is bolted in may be removed.
       D.    Lexan windshield only.  No side windows of any kind.  Lexan rear
window
               optional.

       E.    Fenders may be cut for tire clearance
       F.     Hoods may be gutted.  No cutting holes in hood.
       G.    Bumpers may remain stock type or be replaced with pipe bumper
with
               bumper cover.  No cow catcher.
       H.     For appearances:  after market nose piece and rear bumpers are
                allowed.  Must be approved by Tech Inspector
        I.      Hood and trunk.  Remove locks and replace with pins.

5.  SUSPENSION:
      A.  Stock.  Frame height:  l" side to side front to rear.
      B.  Stock OEM steering ONLY
      C.  Springs optional, minimum 5" OD.  No coil over.
      D.  Shocks.  Racing shocks O.K.  Front can be externally mounted.  Rear
            shocks must remain in approximate stock location.
      E.  Wedgebolts front and rear optional.
      F.   Tubular upper control arm- optional.  MUST be in original mount-
stock mount
             location only.

6.  REAR ENDS:  9" FORD or Floater Rear End.  Disc brakes optional.  l/2" lug
     minimum.  May be locked.  NO WIDE FIVES.

7.  TRANSMISSION:  Standard or automatic.  Stock OEM - unmodified.  Must have
     all forward and reverse gears.

8.  WEIGHT:  Any car with wheelbase of l08" or more must weigh 3,000 lbs.
after
      race with Driver.  Any car with a wheelbase less than l08" with a
minimum of
      l0l" must weigh 3,l00 lbs. after race with Driver must not exceed 358
CI.
      A.  ALL WEIGHT added to cars MUST be bolted in with minimum l/2" bolts
            with locking nutes, minimum 2 bolts/nuts per 50 lbs. minimum 5 lb.
blocks
            and MUST be painted white with the car # or engraved on each
block.  NO
             WEIGHTS ALLOWED IN DRIVER'S COMPARTMENT.

9. STEERING SHAFT:  Must be track approved with center steering knuckle.

10.  FUEL/FUEL CELL:  Scatter shield.  FUEL CELL MANDATORY 22 gal.
       maximum with foam. must have check valve.  9" MINIMUM GROUND
       CLEARANCE and rear protection bar minimum l l/4" .095 bar, 2 straps
        minimum l" width surrounding the ENTIRE fuel cell.  Fuel cells must be
        bolted NO RIVETS - NO SHEET METAL SCREWS.  Location of fuel cells
        MUST be approved by Tech Inspector.  PUMP FUEL ONLY.  NO ALCOHOL.
         NO ADDITIVES.  NO ELECTRIC FUEL PUMPS.  Exhaust must exit outside
         of car.

11.  BATTERY:  Battery will NOT be located in the Driver's Compartment.
Battery
       and any electrical connections must be a minimum of k8" from fuel cell.
      
       A battery disconnect switch is MANDATORY and must be easily accessible
       to the Safety Crew and Driver.  "ON" AND "OFF" MUST BE LABELED
       CLEARLY TO BE SEEN BY THE SAFETY CREW FROM OUTSIDE OF THE
        CAR.

12,  Radiator must have a catch can mounted in front of the engine fire wall.
       ** Optional overflow on windshield **  NO ANTIFREEZE

13.  SAFETY:  Please refer to General Rules.  ALL SAFETY EQUIPMENT MUST
       BE USED ANYTIME THE RACE CAR IS ON THE RACING SURFACE.  DOT
       APPROVED HELMET AND SAFETY APPROVED GOGGLES OR FACE
       SHIELD, COMPLETE FIRE SUIT, GLOVES AND SHOES.  TECH APPROVED
        WINDOWN NET WITH OUTSIDE ACCESS RELEASE, WINDOW NET MUST
         COVER A MINIMUM OF 75% OF WINDOW OPENING.   ALUMINUM DRIVER
         SEAT IS REQUIRED.  SAFETY HARNESS - APPROVED/DATED - 3 YEAR
          OLD MAXIMUM.  FIRE EXTINGUISHER.

               0N BOARD FIRE SYSTEM HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The Race Track Management Reserves the Right to Add or Delete Rules at Their Option.  Their decision is FINAL in all cases.
