IT'S TIME TO RACE!!
April 6, 2005
Glover Survives Yellow Flag Fever
By Rick Anges

On an unusually cool April evening 25
Super Late Models were signed in for race #2 of the
All-American Challenge Series. With the Sunbelt series
running a rain out race in Bronson several drivers had
back up’s running for their points. Two of those
drivers sat first and second in the points; Shane
Sawyer was filling in with leader Wayne Anderson and
"Super" Mario Gosselin sporting the 07 was wheeling
for Jeff Scofield who sat second. Gosselin is coming
off a strong third place finish in the ARCA Series.

Dawayne Bryan and Steve Dorer ran identical 14.450
times in qualifying with Bryan being awarded the pole
due to his standing in the points.

The front row was short lived as the roll of the die
inverted the field 6 rows putting Chris Turner and
Shane Sawyer on the front row.

From the drop of the green flag there was action on
the track, as Turners machine appeared to miss a gear
sending the field behind him scrambling. James Glover
dove low and took the lead with Sawyer right on his
back bumper.

As Turner and Sawyer drove away from the field the
rest of the pack was having a tough time hooking up to
the racing surface. Of the first 100 laps 46 were
under the caution flag. Rain earlier in the day and
seven hard fought features prior made the track tough
to hook up to.

In a Bristol like run the cautions kept coming right
up to the end. The final 3 laps went green and Sawyer
made several runs at the leader but wasn’t able to get
around as Glover roared green to checkers to take the
win. Sawyer collected second place points for
Anderson. "Big" Wayne Morris held onto an ill handling
car for third, Mike Bresnahan stayed out of trouble
for fourth and rounding out the top five was Scot
Walters.

Gosselin had a rough evening finishing a disappointing
16th for Scofield.

William Slack was not to be denied as he roared green
to checkers to take the street stock win. "we finally
figured it out and the car is really handling" said
Slack in the winners circle. David Williamson took
second, third was Ron Herd Jr., Greg Krom ran fourth
and in fifth Wayne Dove.

Once again the Bomber class had the fans on their feet
swapping sheet metal and running three and four wide
in the 25-lap feature. Jay King took the lead on
daring three wide pass coming out of turn two, blazing
from third to the top spot. King took the win, Rick
Germony also made a great move to finish second, third
went to a strong running Jesse Adair, Pete Barr was
fourth and in fifth Dave Davis.

Dale Shelton took the lead and never looked back
taking the trophy home in the Open Wheel feature,
Ralph Bowman was second, third went to Bobby Baldwin,
Fourth was Timmy Moore and fifth Eric Rudd.

Dave Cleary was the class of the field taking his
first feature win of the season in the pure stock
feature. Once again Duane Best and "Ravishing" Rick
Hurley were the show as the duo battled lap after lap
for the second spot. Best was able to stick it on the
outside to take the second spot, Hurley settled for
third. "I always put right side tires on before a race
but I didn’t this week and it bit me" Hurley said.
Darrin Ellis came home fourth and fifth went to
Leonard McCue.
