IT'S TIME TO RACE!!

Sam Cressman Claims Southern Sportsman win
By Rick Anges

Bradenton, Fl. - The 20 Turner Tree and Landscape
Limited Late Models rolled onto the "High Banks" of
DeSoto Super Speedway for qualifying for their 100 lap
feature event and it was Steve Arnold who came out on
top with a 14.94 second run.

The die roll inverted the field 5 rows putting Glenn
Morris and Johnny Casady on the front row.

Morris took the early lead while the action heated up
behind him. Lonny Miller was running second when Steve
Arnold made the move on him, the two made contact
sending Arnold into a spin. Miller tagged the tail of
the field and Arnold reclaimed the spot.

A red flag came out just after half way when a
grinding crash brought the race to a halt. Steve Gill
and Jordan Richardson were tangled together in turn
one when Kyle Maynard, with no where to go plowed into
the two. Although the crash was bad and the cars
destroyed everyone was able to walk away.

When the green flag dropped Steve Arnold made a move
on Jessie Dutilly and roared to the lead and never
looked back taking his first win of the young season.
Jerry Artuso took a strong second, third was Dutilly,
fourth was Glenn Morris and rounding out the top five
was Johnny Casady.

The Southern Sportsman Series saw 37 cars line up to
qualify for the 28-car field. ’99 DeSoto pure stock
champ James Knight took fast time for the 50 lap race.

The racing was hot and heavy during the 50-lap event
and when the smoke cleared it was Ed Kidd in the
winner circle. The win was short lived as Kidd and 2nd
place Pat Thomas were dqed in tech handing the win to
Sam Cressman, second went to Kyle Tenbusch, third was
Hal Vickery, fourth across was ’04 champ Aaron
Williamson and in fifth Brian Teeters.

Joe Gagen and Rich Wildrick had the near capacity
crowd on their feet as the duo went after each other
lap after lap. When the checkers fell it was Gagen
edging out Wildrick by a bumper for his first win in
the Cowboy Caddies, Wildrick second, third Roger
Swinton, fourth Shannon Query, in fifth Tony Pace.

Dean Butrum finally got the hook up and took his first
win of the year in the mini-stock class, second went
to Todd Freed Jr. on his old tires, third was "
Gentleman" Jon Bailey, fourth was Timmy Troyer and in
fifth Kip Bryant.

Rick Hurley held off Duane Best for the pure stock
win, Hurley who had challenged Lucas Cazemiro to bring
his school grades up awarded the young man a "Pocket
Rocket" for his accomplishments. Third place went to
Richard McClough, fourth was Keith Thorbin and fifth
Dave Cleary.
