IT'S TIME TO RACE!!

Skinner Hot In Pro Trucks
By Bronson Media

The hot racing action warmed the Bronson Motor Speedway faithful on a cool March evening. The FASCAR Pro Truck Series descended on the high banks Saturday night. Along with the series regulars some special guests were also in attendance.

Nextel Cup Series regular Mark Martin, currently 3rd in Nextel Cup Points, was on hand for the night's festivities. In addition, future stars Matt Martin and Jamie Skinner competed in the truck series event. Of course, Matt is the son of Mark Martin and Jamie is the son of Busch Series Driver Mike Skinner.

Qualifying started promptly at 7:30, with Mike Gamache putting his Tropical Tile truck on the pole with a sub fifteen second lap. Skinner and Martin qualified second and sixth respectively. Gamache set the pace early but was soon overtaken by Skinner.

Problems for Matt Martin, on lap 13 would end his evening early. He was collected in an accident in turns one and two. On lap fifteen, Jamie Skinner asserted himself into the lead and never looked back en route to another win. Congratulations to Jamie and his entire Stewart Title race team.

Modifieds were the first of the Bronson Racing series regulars to take to the track for their feature event. It was an all Owen front row with Chip and Gene Owen on the point.

Gene won the race to turn one and the chase was on. Kevin Durden in his #56, Alan Southard racing entry was in hot pursuit. Big mover on the evening was #14 Buddy Hughes with new sponsor, Bumper to Bumper on board. Buddy wound up a solid fourth.

The battle up front all night was between Gene Owen and Durden. Although, in the end it was Gene Owen's #11 Owen Farms Racing Chevy that prevailed for his first win of the young season.

The newly named Hungry Howies Sportsman series was the next to take to the high banks. A special thanks to all the folks at Hungry Howies for coming onboard as the title sponsor for the entire 2005 racing season. Heat race action got off to a rocky start with a caution on the first lap.

Newcomer Gil Weibe took a long slide on his roof down the backstretch bringing out the red flag for a race stoppage. In feature race action, Matt Blum started from the pole in his Reno Plumbing #1.

He would use this to his advantage to lead every lap on his way to his first win of the year. Early in the event he dueled with local favorite Rob Cooper but an untimely caution sent Cooper to the rear at the mid-point of the race. Blum was able hold off Arthur Conquest through a final restart to secure the win.

The always exciting action of the Pure Stock Division lived up to their name with tons of action in their feature. Donnie Roberts and A.J. Northup made up the front row at the start of the event.

As was the story of the night the race to turn one would go a long way to deciding the outcome. An accident on lap twelve would eliminate Northup from contention. After the restart, no one would move to challenge Roberts for the win. Roberts was able to lead wire to wire, in his Jones' Grassing special.

The Thunderstocks, formerly known as V-8 Bombers would run the final event of the racing slate. Again the front row starting position would be crucial. Michael Holbrook would get the jump to win his second straight feature event. Ken Sheffield and Randy O'Neil would challenge late, but finish second and third.

Next week, "everyone get on board" the School Busses are hitting the speedway for their first School Bus Figure 8 of the season. Also, Figure 8 Cars and the Bronson Racing Series will be in action!
