DeSoto Back In Action For 2005
by Rick Anges

Bradenton,Fl. The TBARA Winged Sprints rolled into DeSoto Super Speedway for the first race of the season and the near capacity crowd wasn’t let down as 26 of the fire breathers came out for their three heat races.

Heat race wins went to Shane Butler in race #1, veteran Doug Heveron was the winner in heat #2 and Jim Alvis took the checkers in heat #3.

Heat #3 saw the action heating up, as Wayne Reutiman Sr. was Dqed for unsportsman like actions on the track after altercation with Joe Rebman’s ride was sent hard into the turn one wall. Rebman was ok but his car was demolished in the frey.

Twenty Two cars rolled out for the 30 lap feature and when the green dropped the race was on as Jim Alvis jumped out to the early lead with Hevron right on his tail. The top five cars were running nose to tail through the first half of the race.

Just past the halfway mark Sport Allen and Dave Steele (who started in tenth) went three wide splitting Hevron to move into second and third respectably. It wasn’t long before Steele made the move on leader Alvis and took the top spot.

Steele made it look easy for the final portion of the races cruising to his second win in as many races at DeSoto. Second went to Shane Butler, third was Sport Allen, fourth across was Keith Butler and rounding out the top five was Troy DeCaire.

School Bus Figure 8
Scott Brown crossed the stripe as the winner in the Bus race but a post race inspection Dqed him giving Mike Gamache the win, second went to the “Cowboy” Jimmy Volk, third was Ernest Helfrick, fourth was Mark Jackson and in fifth Dave Bones.

Aaaron Williamson the 2004 Southern Sportsman Series champ took second, third was Sue Taylor, fourth went to Jimmie Best and in fifth David Williamson.
