IT'S TIME TO RACE!!

Ocala Speedway brings down the curtain to the 2003 Season!!
Rick Bristol

Ocala Fl. - A huge crowd of fans enjoyed some great weather and some wild racing as Ocala Speedway closed out the 2003 season with the annual enduro 150.

The day got started with ever popular school bus figure 8 race. 9 Buses took the green but Ben Fritz , the local sprint driver now trying out the IRL series saw his hopes end early as his bus died on the start. The rest of the field raced on Fritz abandoned his bus right in the intersection making things exciting every lap.

Several close calls made the fans cringe a few times. Tommy Johnson had a huge lead and was headed to victory until a late intersection collision with the 71 bus of Steve Lesnesky ended his hopes. That opened the door for Dan Trembley to take the checkered flag and pick up a popular win in front of the excited crowd.

Then they began bringing out the 68 cars that would compete for the big prize in the Enduro 150. Drivers from Houston TX,Long Island NY, Maine, Kentucky, Tennessee, South and North Carolina and Georgia joined the Florida contingent to battle it out around the tricky Ocala speedplant.

Only three red flags slowed this one as the field really did a nice job of racing. Ocala's own Doug Webster had the pole and led the entire event only to spin coming to the white flag, handing the win to Herb Nueamann Jr. Webster was able to get back under way to finish second and Mike Gamache took third. Larry Welters Jr. had a good run and finished fourth and fifth would go to South Carolina driver Robbie Powell.

The top 5 headed to tech and that was where they were when this announcer left the track. An official full finish can be obtained by contacting the track. Many fans were commenting on a great day at Ocala Speedway as they made their way home.

Ocala Speedway looks forward to the 2004 season contact the Track for more information on upcoming events.
