The "Rattlesnake" Dominates Open Wheel Race at Desoto
By Rick Anges

Bradenton, Fl. The skies cleared after all the rain the previous week and great night of racing action ensued at the High Banks of DeSoto Super Speedway.

Open Wheel Modifieds

Timmy Moore jumped out to the early lead in the OWM 35 lap feature event but it was long before Steve "the Rattlesnake" Perez was knocking on the door. Perez was coming back from some pretty heavy damage the week before and it looked like the repairs were working. Itget by Moore as Moore made the 57 machine as wide as possible. A slip coming out of the turn opened the door and Perez cruise by. Perez was able to move out to almost a full straightaway lead. Behind him Wayne Jefferson had caught Moore and the battle for second was hot and heavy. The two made contact several times and under caution tempers flared as the two got a little over aggressive, Jefferson and Moore made a little to much contact with each other under the yellow and both were sent to the pits.

Perez dominated the rest of the race and roared to the checkers, second was Pat Nanney after a Dq of Chet Senogossoff, third went to Andy Dyndal, fourth was Rocco Ranallo and fifth went to John Shields.

Sportsman

Bubba Thompson took the trophy home in the Sportsman feature holding off the late race charge of Jessie Duttilly who finished second, third went to James Casady, fourth went to last race winner Mark Peterson and rounding out the top five was James Brenner.

Street Stock

Jamie Cassidy finally worked the bugs out in the 44 machine and won the Street Stock feature race, William Slack took second, third was Casey Hall who had to make repairs to his ride after loosing a wheel in practice, fourth went to Joey Barnes and in the fifth spot it was Greg Krom.

Mod-Mini

Robbie Storer held off the late race charge of Dusty Robinson to take the Mod-Mini class win, Robinson had to settle for second, Steve Martin made his way to the front stretch in third, fourth was Danny Poling and fifth went to Jon Bailey.

Mini-Stock

Todd Freed Jr. over came several weeks of bad luck, started up front and never looked back in route the Mini Sock win, second was Joe Gagen, Dean Butrum took the third spot, fourth was Mike Gayle and fifth was John Wilson.

Pure Stock

The Pure Stock feature was a barn burner and when the smoke cleared it was Dale Shelton holding the checkered flag, Alex Abbott crossed the stripe in second, third went to Jimmie Best, fourth was Keith Thorbin and with great run Roy Anderson finished in the fifth spot.
