Hialeah Celebrates 49th Anniversary, Danny Maddox Takes Home Win
by Marty Little

HIALEAH, Fla. - Hialeah Speedway celebrated its 49th Anniversary Saturday night and it was local veteran Danny Maddox who drove his Pontiac to victory in the 25 lap late model sportsman feature event.
Maddox, in his 39th year behind the wheel, took the lead from David Weaver on lap seven and never looked back. Gary Padula checkered a distant second over Gary McGoron and Weaver.

Ken Ammerman had it all his way in the 49 lap street stock finale as he survived a first lap crash then paced every lap for his second win this season. Jake Reedy claimed second money ahead of points leader Sean Bulaskas, T.C. McElyea and Bob Hogan.

Fast qualifier Mike Famigletti won the 50 lap MK Mechanical Pro Truck run after taking the lead from Curt Haywood on lap 41. Haywood hung tough for runner-up honors in front of Heather Lunsford, Tom North and Charlie Worth.

Mini stock action saw point leader S.C. Klinger run his win total to 10 for the season in the small cars as he easily outran Peter Lloyd, Dave Shull, Ron Kaouk and Harold Cross in the 15 lap contest.

Mike Powers started deep in the 33 car cyclone field and picked his way to the front by lap 34. From then on it was no contest as Powers registered his fourth win of the year ahead of Donald Economy, Steve Dielmann, Bob Regula and Roger Bohannon in the 49 lapper.

The 15 lap super mini cup main fell to Caeser Bacarella over Eryk Hardwick and Carlos Gonzalez.

The always exciting TBARA sprint cars headline the card this week (8-23).
