IT'S TIME TO RACE!!
July 28, 2003
Robby Powell Wins Bronson Figure 8
By Rick Warren

It was a great night of racing at Bronson Motor Speedway, in the heart of beautiful Levy County. The pit area was filled to overflowing, the grandstands were packed, and despite the threatening skys, the racing was very good.

After a good round of heat races and a short intermission, it was time for the feature events. The figure 8 Racers put on a WILD show, and the roar of the fans was at times louder than the racers. With fast and furious action as robbie Powell, Ronny Schreifels, Aaron Nistok and Several others took shots at leading the pack. The race was slowed for three caution flags, but otherwise it was a very quick race, with many drivers escaping the collision at the crossroad by the narrowest of margins. When the dust had cleared, Robbie Powell survived a very near miss with his Brother Ron, and took the checkered flag as the big Winner. Ethan Nistok had a flat tire on the next to last lap, and fell from second to fourth place, with Ron Schreifels taking second, and R. Aaron in third.

The Open Wheel Modified was a real barn burner. Monty Morgan jumped to the early lead, with Rick McManaway right on his bumper. Morgan continued to lead for several laps with McManaway applying heavy pressure at every opportunity. Morgan slipped high going into turn 3, and gave McManaway the openimg he needed to take the lead. Morgan´s car developed handling problems that eventually lead to his early departure from the race. As Morgan continued to fade, the 06 car of G. Nordstrom took up the chase in second place, followed closely by Larry Goolsby. Mean while, buddy Hughes was working his way into the battle, and Gene Owen was charging from his back row starting position to take up the chase as well. With a lot of rubbing, and much changing of the running order, the fans were treated to an excellent race by these modified drivers. When the checkered flag fell, McMananway held on for the win, followed by G. Nordstrom, and Buddy Hughes.

The Sportsman Class was not about to let the OWM class outdo them in the excitement department, and these guys put on a heck of a race. Randy King put his racer out front early, but was never able to open a comfortable lead as William Edwards was applying a lot of pressure, looking for a chanceto get by King. Coming thru the pack to join the battle for the lead Doc Batson and Rob Cooper were steadily passing cars, keeping the fans on there feet. Thrown into the mix were the cars of Tim Wilkerson Dusty Bouchard. As the laps were winding down, Cooper and Batson finally got their chance to take a shot at passing King, but king showed that he was up to the challenge, by holding a low line, and not being rattled by the heavy pressure Cooper and Batson.

King held on for the win, by the narrowest of margins over Cooper, with Batson close behind.

The Mini-Stock Feature brought Clint Foley to the winners circle again, after a long absense. Foley worked his way into the lead in the early laps, and went unchallenged for the win, but the battle for second was furious. Larry Goolsby and Don Faunce, had a classic duel for the runner up position, with Goolsby outlasting Faunce for second place.

The Pure Stock Division was at their usual rockem sockem best, and had another good show. Arthur Conquest took the lead early, and pretty much checked out on the field, but the rest of the field was involved in a serious battle. Several cautions slowed the race in the early going, and the old adage that " cautions breed cautions " was proved tonite, as it took 4 restarts to complete the fifth lap. Once the racers managed to get past the lap 5 jinx, the racing was wild. The race ended with Conquest taking the win, followed by Krystal Batson, and Mike Baker.

Kevin Hodge made it two in a row in the V-8 Bomber division, as he claimed the victory over Mike Holbrook and Emmitt Bottoms.

J. DeGeorge also made it two in row, as he took top honors in the 4 cyl bomber division, followed by J. Pittsley and Rick Kuhn.

Be sure to join us next week as the Late Models Return to the High Banks of Bronson Motor Speedway for the Coca Cola 6 Pack Series. See You There !!
