East Bay Raceway Park Gets the Message from Mother Nature
by Bill Green “From Behind the MIC!”
Tampa, FL (July 12th, 2003). The last time the East Bay Raceway Park’s 360 Sprints ran a feature event on the clay-by-the-bay was some 28 days ago. That’s 670 hours without the smell of alcohol in the air. That’s 40,320 minutes or should I say 2,419,200 seconds since anybody got mud in his or her beer. In other words, it seemed like a lifetime for real diehard dirt racing fans.
Saturday Night’s line-up looked like a marathon of racing “ACTION” to makeup for the missed opportunities of resent weeks. Two 360 Sprint Features, two Mini-Stock Features, an Antique Sprint Car exhibition race, plus a regular night of racing for the normal 5 classes running tonight. Including heats and exhibition, there were over 175 laps of competition scheduled.
Limited Late Models were up for their heats first, BUT and that’s a big but, Mother Nature wanted to have a say in the ACTION. After an hour and a half delay, the track drying and preparations for the Street Stock Feature, we only had one more thing to do. That’s was bring out the Street Stocks backwards on the clay surface and work that final packing in of the track.
A Feature only program was quickly worked out, scraping all the heat races and everything look great for some excellent racing.
Then the rains returned and officials were forced to call it a night.
Oh, Ya! The message from Mother Nature was, "You don't get to race until I say so!"
Repeat after me, "I love Mother Nature... I love Mother Nature... I love Mother Nature..." Who knows, maybe it'll work. Come on, "I love Mother Nature... I love Mother Nature... I love Mother Nature..."
Check the East Bay Raceway Park web site for information on rescheduling of the make-up features for the 360 Sprints and Mini-Stocks. Go-Karts will hopefully get a break from "Mama Natural" next Friday, as we return to racing “Under-The-Lights” on Friday Nights. Hope everyone had a happy and safe 4th of July.
