IT'S TIME TO RACE!!

Ok, Enough is Enough, Mother Nature Wins at the End!
by Bill Green “From Behind the MIC!”

After last weeks 15 plus inches, Mother Nature took a few days off. The puddles subsided, the ditches dried up. Great! By Friday, midday we were looking real good for some fantastic go-kart racing and Saturday Nights “Riverview Chamber of Commerce Night” was looking pretty good, too.

Only thing was Mother Nature once again had her own ideas for Friday, so Go-Kart racing “Under-The-Lights” was postpone until July 18th for the make-up. That’s due to the 4th of July weekend.

As for Saturday Night, it was clear sailing and I mean there where some cars so hooked up on the stickiest of surfaces tonight, but we still had no runway leaders, but lots of action, from front to back.

Street Stocks were up first on tonight’s action card. Temporarily sponsored for the night by the Riverview Chamber of Commerce, visiting East Bay Raceway Park with several of the chamber member businesses. Feature time would see only 14 cars able to make the call for the 15-lap event. What looked like their best chance for a green to checkered flag run, fell short on lap 2 when Donnie Caldorni lost power in turns 3 and 4. Jason Bronson would out last the final field of four cars running, for the win. Bruce Harvey would go second and Paul Gibbs went third, as they were the only 3 cars left on the lead lap. Jack Martin brings the 87 through, the survival-of-the-fittest, for forth and the 41 of Eric Johnson gets fifth from his infield seat.

Limited Late Models opened up their 15-lap feature with the 66 of Ricky Land catching fire, for the second time tonight, on lap 3. The win would go to Bill Howard, Mike Rudder second, Jeff Mathews third, William Hampton fourth and Timmy Bronson fifth.

Late Models were up third for tonight’s “ACTION” packed feature and they didn’t disappoint. From his pole position, J.R. Garcia III would take everyone’s breath away as he tried to enter turn 1 as the leader on the drop of the green flag. Unfortunately Garcia would enter turn 1 at too high a rate and slowly turn around into all 17 of the full throttle starters behind him. Bobby Alexander Jr. would be the big looser in this one and was taken into the pits on the hook. After a teardown a few weeks ago, Jeff Choquette would take win number 4 and really start to feel the pressure of being the guy to beat, as several drivers would take cheap shots at the youngster during the event. Surviving several restarts Phillip Cobb would also challenge several times for the win, but settled for second. Donnie Tanner proved why he is one of the drivers that can win on any given night as he finished third and maintained his points lead. Going fourth was Bobby Alexander Sr. after leading the most laps on the night and J.R. Garcia III would overcome the early race miscue, to finish 5th as the rain started.

The Brake Man Winged Sprints and Hill’s Dirt Pit, Pioneer Tire & Auto, Buzbee Aquatics Mini-Stocks will run double Features on July 12th. Go-karts will run July 11th, 18th and 25th to make up the lost Friday Night of go-karting. And We’ll See You All At The Races in July!
